My nephews' girlfriend (knowing my love of flying) has asked me the following:

One of my friends at Griffith University is conducting research about air traffic control transmissions. I'd really appreciate if you or anyone who has any experience in aviation (whether students, pilots, etc) could participate

She's then sent me this outline:

A research project is being conducted at Griffith University by Honours student Casey Clark and her supervisor Dr Christime Boag-Hodgson. The project has attained approval from the Griffith University ethics committee.
The research aims to explore the effect of cognitive biases in the recognition of aviation call signs. As call sign confusion is recognised by the International Civil Aviation Authority as one of the main risks to aviation safety, this is topic important to research. The actual study involves listening to air traffic ground control radio transmissions and mapping the movement of aircrafts onto aerodromes. It's all conducted online and would take up to an hour to complete.

To participate, read more information about the project, or see contact details of the research team, access www.tinyurl.com/calls1gn

Wonder if Boris, jb747, straitman or any other pilots want to complete...

Thanks Boris Spatsky. Please post your comments about the survey as this may assist others in completing it.

First problem is it requires you to listen to an hour straight of ATC recordings. I might get to it in the year 2020 then... ðŸ

Tried it today and it was a massive failure. Wouldn't work properly on my browser and had numerous issues once in the program.

That's disappointing to hear but thanks for putting in the time - I'll make sure the people involved read your comment. Which browser were you using Boris?

Boris, I shared your comment with my nephews' girlfriend, who responded on behalf of Casey (the student involved in the study):

Oh dear, I'll pass that on. Sorry that it didn't work. I really appreciate that he gave it a go, especially considering the length. The survey seems to have worked for other people in the past. When I first heard about the survey, about 70 people had their data through already. At this stage, after the past few weeks of recruiting, the study has had an adequate number of responses, so feel no need to promote the study further. That pilot seems to have had a frustrating time of it, so I'd understand if he didn't want to try again.

Safari on Mac. It didn't mention any requirements in the preamble. The actual issue was it wouldn't accept any mouse clicks or keyboard entries so i couldn't do anyrhing (as required) whilst listening to the audio.
