Long time lurker, first time poster here =D

So..I got a few questions that I hope someone can answer as this concerns my impending holiday in 3 weeks or so.

1. Does SQ still accept seat blocking? I'm quite portly so any tiny bit helps with making sure I can put up flying (havent flown for a good 3 years) I have checked availability using KVS and my flights (outbound SQ242 then MI754 inbound SQ979 SQ231) seem to be relatively empty and I've prebooked 81D on SQ231

2. Are my flights (mentioned in the first question) have a rep to be known as relatively empty or does it change depending on the time? Last time I flew SQ231 it was half empty and I was told that generally its the least full flight due to its late departure aka it wont connect with the majority of SQ's Europe legs

3. Any tips on what to do in coughet and Bangkok? First time heading there so I won't have a clue apart from browsing TripAdvisor and doing some prelim research

Thanks in advance for any replies :)

Welcome AFF :D

A few questions there.

For the first two, there are a few here who fly SQ regularly or you might like to have a look at sqtalk.

As far as Thailand goes, there are many regulars who have been there. What are your main interests in relation to Thailand?

You could look at FlyerTalk here: Thailand - FlyerTalk Forums

Cheers for that...sqtalk seems to be a good resource unfortunately, no search option so its a pain to look at each page. With regards to Thailand, well I plan to go on a tour to one of the islands from coughet, and maybe a city tour combined with an excursion to Ayuthaya (?) when I'm in Bangkok.

I had a good search before coming here with regards to the seat block and availability, however I keep hitting pages that are either min 4-5 yrs old or concern other carriers. My travel dates are from 3-10 to 16-10 if that will make my question less vague.

Welcome to AFF stigsfilocousin!

Are you asking about a complimentary blocked seat or do you want to pay for a second seat? Generally unless the flight is lightly loaded airlines will only grant blocked seats requests to top tier frequent flyers (airlines like Qantas have what is generally known as a shadow occupying the seat next to them for top tier frequent flyers). You can always call SQ and ask them if they would put a note in your booking and you can check about a spare seat next to you at check-in.

Loadings can vary day by day and can change at the last minute.

As for coughet and Bangkok how long is a piece of string? There is so much to do and what interests on person may not necessarily interest another person.

There is plenty of information on the internet about either place but I would definitely recommend a full day tour out to the Andaman Sea from coughet. As for Bangkok then Ayuddhaya would be nice, markets such as Chatuchak or flower markets.

I will be there from 1 Oct to 16 Oct as well.

The only reason I go to Bangkok nowadays is to spend time in one of their many rooftop bars. Having done alot of the tourist-y stuff many trips ago, Bangkok has a series of rooftop bars which are great to spend pre-sunset through to whenever time. The usual bars are up at Sirocco (Lebua Tower) or Moon Bar/Vertigo (Banyan Tree Hotel). Also other avantgarde cool places like Bed Supper Club (not rooftop, but having drinks/dinner before it turns into a nightclub), down to cheap thrills of Hollywood club (once my haunt), to RCA if you're young enough (not anymore).

However first timers, I'd do a boat ride along the river, visit a temple or two, the giant sleeping buddha, stroll through Patpong (visit a bar or two if you're into that stuff), get a cheap massage, spend a minute or two inside MBK (I don't like that place but good to say you've been there, unless you're actually shopping), visit all the department stores such as Siam Paragon which makes our department stores back in Australia look average. Then after all that .... hit the rooftop bars as suggested above :)

coughet ... eat, lay on the beach, massage and repeat daily. That's what I do! But I did once check out the FantaSea? live show and thought that was pretty cool, that's a tourist-y feature. Then others do day trips out to other islands .... most famous, James Bond Island LOL. I thought it was pretty cool to be honest, a day out on the boat, canoe-ing through hidden caves etc, swimming, then a quick look at JB Island. Then at night, you won't miss Bangla Road and all the hocky pocky that goes around there. Just don't get yourself into too much trouble ok!

I go to eat, and get new clothes. The array of food choices in Bangkok is outstanding, and excellent value.
