First for me today - was transiting from INT to DOM at BNE. Presented my boarding pass at the DOM Business Lounge, and was requested to show ID before entry would be granted. Never had this happen during my weekly domestic trips previously. Was a proper boarding pass on cardboard stock as well, compared to the electronic variant on my phone I would usually use. Of course no issue once I presented ID, just thought it was a bit strange. Note this was in the morning, before the bar opened.

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else recently? Is there perhaps an increase of people using other peoples BP's to enter the lounges lately? Would hate to be presenting my ID on every visit.

I've never been asked to show ID before, but recently they've been scanning my boarding pass every time. In the past I've just held it up from a distance and been waved inside.

Thanks for the heads up. I always take my I.D. with me when I fly anyway. I certainly wouldn't want to miss out on a lounge visit due to not having I.D. on me.

Back in the day, I was carded at the bar in many Qantas Clubs but never on entry. Did you make the newbie mistake of actually approaching the main desk on entry rather than veering off to one side as you walk in?

Other innocent reasons could be:-
- You look like a celebrity, and the front desk was having a bet if you were
- Security was looking for someone matching your description
- You looked super jetlagged or suspicious
- Bouncers at QC have some kind of quota to fulfill, similar to security

Some places will ask for I.D. if you look under about 30/40 to be very conservative. There are big fines for serving alcohol to those under 18

I walked to the right (J) side of the lounge entrance and presented my boarding pass to the agent there? Is there another way to do it in BNE? Celebrity - probably not, they could tell by the name on the boarding pass anyway. Security - maybe, but if it's just based on my description, an ID wouldn't prove that they weren't looking for me. Looking jet-lagged is possible given the transit from the international red-eye.

Do you look under 18?
I haven't looked young enough to be requested for ID the other 80+ times I've walked into airline lounges in the last year or so. Or even when requesting alcohol at the bar.

Seems like this was a once-off occurrence, given no one else as experienced it. I'll put it down to looking not so great after my international long haul I suppose.

This enhances security preventing somebody else useing your BP

Forms of Identification
Domestic Flights within Australia

If you have an e-ticket or paper ticket, and are travelling on a domestic flight within Australia (flights QF400 and above), you'll need to carry the following items with you:

  • Photo identification such as a driver's licence, passport or social security card; or
  • Your Qantas booking reference (printed on your e-ticket itinerary receipt); or
  • Your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership card, Qantas Club membership card; or
  • Credit card used for the ticket purchase.

I just normally show my QFF card never had an issue. I do not bother printing boarding passes for domestic, I jut get it at the gate.

Which would make sense as your QFF card is a form of accepted ID, according to the post by Happy Trails above.

I was "carded" occasionally while entering Qantas lounges when I was 18. I was told it was because there was self-serve alcohol.

Hasn't happened to me for a while now with Qantas, although I was asked for ID last year at a lounge in Uruguay. The guy behind the desk said he was curious how old I was, and commented that I was the youngest person he'd met that had oneworld sapphire status.

I'm curious as to why anyone would travel anywhere without ID. It lives in the wallet anyway so no hardship to take it with you surely?

Just more time consuming. For my next job they wanted a photo ID.As I was OS sent a copy of Passport. On arrival home I found that not enough and they want a copy of my birth certificate and Medicare card.As well it is not the first time I have worked there.
The world is just going mad and QF lounges are not immune.

That's a walk in the park!

I did a 3 month contract last year that wanted 100 points of ID, 10 years worth of employment, travel, and living history, full financial check. They even wanted details of my shareholdings and did a check on a company that I'm a director of.

They raised a red flag on a company that I was an employee of 5 years ago because it no longer exists (it was acquired by another company). Even though I was just an employee (granted I was the most senior person in the company who was not a director) I had to explain what happened to the company since I left.

Fun times.
