With so many overseas visitors coming to our shores it could be an idea to rename major gateways to recognise eminent Australians, in the style of Kingsford Smith for SYD.

I can only think of the Don for ADL...Adelaide Donald Bradman International Airport.

Maybe, likewise for BNE and PER.

Well let's consider MEL, there is a large amount of branding that supports our city. Watch the tennis for example and you'll see the logo below.

If advertising works and people want to travel here, they'll search for MEL AP not Tullamarine etc.

IMHO sometimes simpler is better.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

It's not so long ago that there were serious moves to name Leeds Bradford for Jimmy Savile.

For Sydney, who uses Kingsford Smith as the name?

I heard Kevin Rudd was trying to have BNE named after him after reports came out of him being a grandiose narcissist.

Badgerys Creek airport could be named after Hawkey, the Silver Bodgie.

Well that'd be confusing... Don Bradman International airport Adelaide, Don Bradman International airport Brisbane, Don Bradman International airport Perth.

:)

Still... would be appropriate to 99.94 airports with that name.

Could always call Badgerys Creek (what would the 3 letter code be?) Richie Benaud International Airport. "QF222 now boarding from gate 22"

"Paging the last passenger for QF222, Mr 12th Man, your flight is about to be hit for 6!"

In all seriousness: it already has a code ... SWZ.

Not to be confused with Swaziland, or Switzerland.

I get the S is for Sydney and the W is for West ... i assume the Z is for Zombie apocalypse which i assume is the opening date.

When was the code allocated?

Was that your most intelligent interpretation?

No thanks!

King Charles West Sydney International Airport would be nice.

Be prepared for the uproar between the pro-Republicans vs Australians for a Constitutional Monarchy in naming rights so they would probably have to waste millions of taxpayer dollars on a referendum.

So not the other Adelaide favourite Don (Dunstun) ?
Surely as DB was from NSW (Bowral) maybe the new (proposed) Badgery's creek airport should carry his name?

Oh yeah, one Don. Dunstan!

I should have known Bradman was NS Welshman. Seems I got confused as he retired to Adelaide where he died.
