Recently started looking to book an award flight to the US with QFF points. I normally use the CX flight options via Hong Kong to get there. But these seem to have almost disappeared and have been replaced with MU flights via Shanghai.

Anyone else notice the sudden lack of availability of CX flights to the US? Is this a recent and/or permanent thing?

Asia miles have been down over the last few days as they update their site. I read that nothing was showing up on BA’s reward site during the update either. Wait a few days and they should be put back up.

Ok. Thanks. That could be it. This has been a problem for me since I started searching earlier this week.

I've not flown wit MU before, but I may have no choice as I want to book something soon.

I've been looking hard as I want to get from NYC back to HKG around the new year.

There had been quite a few economy options but about 12 days ago these suddenly all disappeared, leaving a few PE and First awards. (happy to fly CX long haul economy as there's no charge for exit seating when Emerald).

I see plenty of MU options but am avoiding due to no status benefits outside of and between Oz and Asia.

The changes to the Asia Miles scheme are due to come into operation today, June 22. I'd expect to see changes in QFF availability and, quite possibly, points needed when they get operational presumably shortly.

CX award availability seems to have reduced to all destinations over the last couple of months. Until rencently, there were up to 8 J seats on lots of flights. Previous years I’ve had no problem getting 3 J seats. Not now.

Summer months in the northern hemisphere usually have less availablity, but this seems different.

Ageeed, I’ve been monitoring HKG-CDG for some time, and previously it had consistently released +4 in J most days, which has dried up in the last month or so

I was looking at HKG to some EU destinations earlier this week and there was CX availability, now nothing is showing in any cabin - as has been reported on FT, FWIW.
Hoping it's a temporary setback.

Reading this thread makes me happy I recently jumped on a couple of CX F seats out of CDG. Interested to see how these changes play out as CX awards seats have been a deadset certainty for the amaroos for many, many years.

Slightly OT. Qantas out of Honolulu in J is non existent on Q metal so I checked CX and can see nada.

I've been monitoring HKG-JFK F awards on the QF website for a while. Definite reduction in availability for my searches.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

CX won't even display 'U' class seats in Amadeus which has just happened in the last couple of days. Wonder if JAL Mileage Bank site will display them or BA Executive Club site?

I saw plenty of U class award seats in January 2019 when the 744 was first put on that route. That was around the same time QF had a premium sale for AUD2,999.00 return to HNL in J and AUD1,499.00 for PE so I guess people jumped on both paid sale fares plus snapped up the award seats.

Does seem quite recent issues as I usually find CX J easy. 12 days ago I bkd CX J for May-June 19, BNE-HKG-JFK and JFK-HKG-SYD. Didn't really want to go via BNE, but not a lot of choice for a LTS.

I’m looking at late May and early June in prep for when the flights are released shortly. But nada in those weeks.

Certainly much easier to find SQ J seats ('I' class fare bucket) to/from SFO//LAX and HKG, NRT, SEL & SIN. If you have any VA points lying around you could transfer them across to Kris Flyer. Bonus is that you can waitlist SQ dates but you'd need to have a plan B as well.

Don't forget to check ex BOS, ORD, YYZ & YVR besides the more popular JFK/EWR, LAX & SFO. It's a PITA that Expert Flyer doesn't show CX award availability so you can't set flight alerts.

I've also been monitoring business availability for 2 different times/routes next year, but with Asia Miles rather than QF pts. Recently I booked one on the old points scale as I really didn't want to miss my preferred flights. I rolled the dice with the second to Europe, hoping I'd get it for 85,000 instead of 110,000 AMs after June 22. Availability was there before the site went down for maintenance and introduction of the new rates, but not there after. I'm now waitlisted but will book SQ as a backup.

Yep but I didnt want to spend too much time backtracking. We would have flown from mainland USA to get to Hawaii.

Last month booked 2 in J on CX - HKG/JFK/HKG for later next month, fees a total of $190!! points $400K.
