Hi
Just noticed there is a new Velocity points tie-in with container deposit schemes for recycling drink cans and plastic bottles, via an organisation called Envirobank.
https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/Earn/sustainability/

You can earn money for the cans and bottles and (with a bit of effort) a few VFF points too!
Granted the earning opportunities are currently *limited* in every sense of the word - but this new Velocity points earner gets my bonus points for environmental consciousness
Hopefully Envirobank can expand their network over time, with public support.

ENVIROBANK
Recycle your way to rewards with Envirobank, Australia’s most innovative recycling company, whose vision is to clean up our country and reward people for the good they do.

Simply sign up to Crunch, Envirobank’s rewards program and start recycling your eligible bottles and cans. For every container you recycle, you’ll get 15 Crunch credits, which you can transfer into 5 Velocity Points.

A lot of effort for little points, especially as erewards are so easy to earn 2000 VA points per month.

By my maths if you get 10c per container normally those Velocity points cost 2c each. Way above my 0.5c threshold.

Just looked more into this, Sydney depot is Revesby. Screw that, it costs time & $$$ to drive to Revesby for so few points.

Tell me something I don't know. I've been recycling into those council initiated pop up MyTomra skip stations. It's embarrassing when everyone else is standing in line with their garbage bags full of bottles and cans - then I back up the ute and dump a week's worth of empty grog bottles.

Giving up the grog has made me more sober, more awake and all for some pocket change. It's also made me cranky, more sober and more awake.

I'm now waiting for the actual benefits to kick in......

I posted elsewhere that we had wandering men in full PPE in our street, collecting bottles and hubby reports to me that there was a line of old fogies with wheelbarrows today at the local shops collection point. They drop off, wheel back to their cars for more and back - good luck to them.

Im going to have a recycle bin in my office for a local sports club collection but the club rep has to come to my house and pick up - Im not making too much of an effort.

My every 4 months work of collecting odd jobs wise, bottles, can, glass, etc, in 4 months, I can get $10 to $12, 100/120 items is not too much.
$2 to drive from my place to the depot and back... $10 to put aside towards my Virgin Australia flights.
Though I live in SA, where there is a $0.10 paid by the drinker for every item bought from a store, any size (glass/metal/carton drink can), even imported drinks have to have the $0.10 label.
While collecting VFF points is good, for for recyclables wise, I am not getting involved in that tie in.

Never heard of this but when I looked, they don’t have them in every state

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

I was reading an article on this yesterday and it was pointed out that

1. it takes 30 days for points to appear in your recycling account then
2. another 30 days for points to appear in your Velocity account, once transferred and
3. the recycling centre keeps 5% if you were to donate the recycling to a charity.

Again I say it, way too much work for too few points.

We now have a recycling bin in the office, bag goes to my house, nephew picks up from the corner of the lawn and gives to his sporting club coordinator. Min effort, 100% of $ goes to the sporting club.

good scheme to have but the problem is too much work and not enough sites to recycle the goods in

Well apparently you can earn 15% bonus Velocity points for transferring crunch credits to Velocity by 15 June. Still not worth it IMHO.
