Hi,

my my wife and I are planning a trip to Europe around this time next year and plan to take our then 1.5 year old son as a lap infant. Departung from Perth, one leg of the journey will originate / terminate in the U.K., the other will be somewhere in mainland Europe (flexible). Prefer one stop to destination but would do 2.

We we will be using points and have 175,000 amex Points and 225,000 points with QF so there are several options on the table that I am aware of including EK, QR, SQ, CX (extends the distance travelled somewhat). Anyone have recent experience traveling with a lap infant with any of these airlines in J? Are there others I should look into? I did do a search of this forum but the relavant results seemed to be from several years ago (prior to 787 and A350s being on the scene anyway).

In short, whatt is the best long haul business class product for a couple traveling with a lap infant and why?

at 1 1/2 the baby will probably be too big for the bassinet (our 7 month old is almost too big already).
We flew the below flights with our 5 week old baby and preferred QF for the bassinet and BA for the two seat mini cabin feel in the rearward facing seats for a sleep on our chest
QF A330
CX 777
BA A380
BA A319
SK 737
AY A321
AY A350
QF 747

haven't done the 787 with our son yet but will be heading to BOS next year when he will be about 1 1/2yrs old on JL and that should be a 787

SQ wide seats probably the best for those baby's that can't fit into the bassinet. Issue would be having to fork our $$$ for the infant (though as others have pointed out that can be circumvented by booking using velocity points)

CX bassinet on their long haul product is reasonably solid. The only issue is that because its perched up on a "ledge" sorta chest level, if your baby is prone to climbing out, it could be quite dangerous.

Have no idea about EK and QR.

One more thing to note is that OP has QF points (OW) in addition to the Amex points, so a OW airline will probably suit them more...

EK offers a staggered seating arrangement where on alternate rows you get two middle seats together.... easy for the adults to sit together and pass the infant to each other as required (for example during meal times). But EK seats are 'narrow' (compared to say SQ). That's not as easy for airlines such as CX where the reverse herringbone kind of separates passengers, even in the two middle seats.

SQ is a good option, ultra wide seats mean plenty of space to nestle infant beside you and still get comfortable. QF - narrow seats. QR - dunno, will depend on the configuration of the aircraft. Reverse herringbone has the same problems as CX. If they have the new 'cube suites' it might be an option.

Thanks all for the feedback, baby is large already (~10kg and only 5 months old) so no chance he will be fitting in a bassinet a year from now.

Good thinking on booking SQ via velocity to save some fees. Also makes sense to avoid herringbone / reverse herringbone configurations.
