I'm facing the disappointment that the wheels on my Samsonite luggage are starting to go. The bag seems to take more and more effort to wheel around after each flight. Only bought the bag 3 years ago.

Ideally I'd like something a bit smaller than the typical medium sized bag of 66cm, but need a bit more space than the typical carry on of 55cm. Smaller bags are esier to move around, and less space means less likely to "just in case" items

Hoping a few AFFers have some experience with bags that can go the distance and aren't too heavy as I'll often need to fit within a 20KG checked in allowance.

Budget wise, I'd prob not go above $400 though I'm willing to be convinced it's worth the money. I seem to need a new bag every few years. I'd like to not have a bag give me problems mid holiday again.

IMO you should phone samsonite as ask for some replacement wheels

You're lucky it's lasted 3 years.

I got a Samsonite bag for Christmas in 2015.
The first trip with it was a week in LA in mid 2016. The wheels didn't go straight. 2 weeks into the 2nd trip (6 week RTW Oct/Nov), the wheels were all but dead, with one coming off while in the JFK T1 FIS and a 2nd being worn down near the end of the trip.
Warranty repair, replaced wheels.

1st trip with new wheels (July last year). Still didn't go straight. Again, wheels worn down by the end of the RTW.
Again wheels replaced at the start of this year.

2 years into a 10 year warranty, and the wheels have been replaced twice.

The prior bag (not Samsonite) lasted 5 years with only a zipper replacement and some caving in along the top of the bag towards the end. Trips with both bags were of the same types (1-2 short trips of 1 week max + a 5-6 week RTW each year)

Doing some research prior to the 2nd repair shows that the wheel issues are a common problem with larger Samsonite bags.
