Hi Guys,

In five weeks time I will be flying off on a RTW and visiting Tokyo, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, New Orleans, New York, Dubai and Bangkok along the way. I have been to all these cities before, except Dubai which will be the first time.

I am currently pressed for time :( trying to juggle work (it's up to my ears :(), trying to plan the 'biggest day of my life' (she said yes), and trying to maintain a reasonable social life (drinks o'clock yet?). I will also away for work for two weeks just before the start of my holiday (maybe as punishment for taking another five weeks leave? but who knows?) so I've got less time :(

So - I know it's a bit of a short cut - but if anyone wants to RMAR, or suggest any cafes, bars (or anything else) that I should visit, in any of those places, I would be greatly thankful for any suggestion :)

Just a couple we enjoyed in recent years:-

SFO:

  1. Daniel Corey is a fab chef at Luce at the Intercontinental (Luce - Home). One of best tasting menus we had in SFO (IMHO better and more enjoyable than French Laundry.)
  2. Campton Place (CAMPTON PLACE :: SAN FRANCISCO)

NYC:

  1. Le Bernardin (Le Bernardin by Eric Ripert | Home)
  2. 11 Madison Park Eleven Madison Park Restaurant
  3. Café Boulud (Cafe Boulud – New York City | Cafe Boulud)
  4. for an historical Brasserie - Les Halles (Les Halles)
  5. Lunch - the café at the MOMA is extremely good. (the one at the MET isn't.)

Enjoy!

(Edit: Unless you have an Amex Centurion card or similar, or contacts, you'll need to book well ahead for 1-3 for NYC.)

NYC-Katz deli on the lower east side, best reuben sandwich on earth, Russ and daughters on the lower east side, best bagels in NYC. Shake shack for good burgers. Keens steak house for meat eaters (awesome mutton chops)

And Momofuku Noodle Bar for good Ramen.

Tokyo - high end Sushi Yo****ake in Ginza and low end Kiji Okonomiyaki in the Tokia building next to Tokyo Station.

Tip - make sure you have some wine/spirits packed in your bag, or hit the DF on landing at DXB. I totally forgot you can't buy alcohol outside of the hotels. The beer in the mini fridge (stubby) was about $12.50 a pop.

ohhh - if you had to choose one of these over the other which one would you recommend?

was in BKK last month and preferred gaggan over nahm.

EMP - more innovative, varied techniques
Le Benardin - more conventional, but very well cooked food

Tonight, I am more EMP:)

In SF for breakfast I highly recommend the Hollywood Cafe. Unfortunately it is very popular but if you are only looking for a table for two it's not so bad a wait. I've eaten there a few times and thoroughly enjoyed a hearty and cheapish breakfast/brunch.

Hollywood Cafe, San Francisco - Fisherman

It's next to the Holiday Inn Express at Fisherman's Wharf and only a short distance from trams or cable car.

If you like seafood Le Bernadin is the place to go in NYC.
And you can usually book on Open Table at 30 days out.Only failed once and our NYC concierge got us in anyway.

Thank you to all the suggestions, will definitely write them all down and look into them.

And just for something totally different in Tokyo one of the oldest sukiyaki restaurants in Japan and conveniently close to the Akasakusa subway station and the Asakusa Jinja shrine,
== Sukiyaki C H I N Y A ==

We had a meal there and because we weren't Japanese we got a private dining room.A little expensive but definitely worth it.

All the suggestions are now noted down, so thanks again. I did start looking at some of the suggestions and I think my credit card might be declined at some of those places ... if its not for insufficient funds, its because my provider thinks I'm spending outside of my norm and block the card ;) We will likely end up one or two of the suggestions above, and just let it go at Tokyo, San Franciso, New York and Bangkok - after all, YOLO.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Time for a Qantas Cash card then! :)

Here are few of my favourites in NYC that are at the cheaper end (my end):
- Mighty Quinns BBQ in the East Village
- Jacob's Pickles in UWS for southern food
- Smorgasburg food markets at Williamsburg/Brooklyn on Saturday/Sunday for a bit of everything
- 99c pizza slice everywhere :D

In Tokyo go to the Tsukuba fish markets for breakfast if you like fresh fish

Travelling with Jnr's, we do more comfort meals than fine dining. Here's a couple that we enjoyed:-

NY - Bills Bar and Burger (near Rockerfeller Center) and Metro Hotel (they have a rooftop bar with a great view of the Empire State Building). I had a mean coughtail at the rooftop bar during daylight, then headed down to the Metro Grill for a very nice meal and back up to the rooftop bar to see the Empire State Building lit up.

SFO & LA - you have to do an "In 'n Out Run" in one or both (animal style) and The Cheesecake Factory overlooking Union Square in SFO or at The Grove in LA.

We love comfort food that's we r heading to NOLA for a bit of southern style cooking, lots of herbs, cajun spices and abundant seafood :) we have eaten at the cheesecake factory before overlooking Union Square :)

I echo JohnM re Gary Danko in SF - great value and awesome food.

New York - Le Bernadin without a doubt. Rosa Mexicano for frozen pomegranate margaritas and fresh guacamole.

But it my top pick is Bouley - for lunch. $55 for 5 courses (turns out to be 9 in the end with amuse bouche, bonus dish, palate cleanser and petit fours) plus tax and tip. Spectacular food.
