Hi everyone, my first post on this forum after having lurked for nearly three years. Before asking my question, thank you to all contributors for such a wonderful resource and having passively taught me just about everything I needed to know about the QFF programme and more on the sub-forum relating to that.

I am shortly traveling AKL-SYD-BNE with the first sector on LAN and the second on QF. As I understand it from reading various posts here I will be able to have my baggage checked all the way through to BNE from AKL as both LAN and QF are OW members.

The timing of my travel is slightly unusual in that I deliberately have a fairly long layover in SYD as I would like to leave the airport and go into the city for a few hours between flights to sort a few things out, but I don't want to lug my baggage around or (ideally) use a baggage storage outfit. My question is, is there any reason why I can't just check it through at AKL and clear customs at SYD and be on my merry way and then return to the domestic terminal and board the flight in the knowledge that my baggage should be on there?

I am guessing that I would need to get the boarding passes for both flights at AKL.

Am I missing anything, or is it all that simple?

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

After clearing customs you should be able to go to the transfer counter and drop your bag off there for the SYD-BNE flight. If you don't have a boardingpass you will get one there anyway.

I'm not sure whether you would be able to go back out of the transfer area and head into Sydney from the Int terminal though.

You might be better off going through security in the transfer terminal and catching the bus over to the domestic terminal and then leaving from there.

Sorry, I probably should have been more specific. I was only referring to my checked luggage.

Your bag should be tagged all the way through to BNE. However, you'll have to clear customs in SYD. Collect your bag in SYD, clear customs and then go to the transfer area and drop your bag off. It'll then next reappear in BNE. You should then be right to progress as planned.
