Hi all

This seems like a pretty good deal to me: Garuda J class from SYD to BKK available (incl. all taxes) on expedia at the moment for $2.198. This is about $1K less than a typical J class flight to BKK. The flight is on A330 to Jakarta and then onto Bangkok on their 737. Both flights are in J. Has anyone done this flight and if so, was it good value?

Cheers,
Sigh

Actually - correction. It is $2,378. It works out an average price of $2,198 for 2 adults and 1 child.

I suspect the 737 J component will be more Y+ if only because of the cabin config.

this should be fine - provided the connection times are reasonable. A lot of the GA fares have really bad connections - to Europe for example I think there is a good 4, 5 or 6 hours at both DPS and or GCK (depending on which flights you take). I was looking at GA to China the other day and it was going to be an 11 hour wait both ways.

If you are flying via Jakarta then I think it is full flat beds (A330-200) as against an angled lie flat on their A330-300s.

But if you were also planning a stop in Bali it would work well.

The seat pitch on the 737 is decent - 45' or something.

Thanks for the replies. I think I might pull the trigger on this - according to expedia the layover time on the outbound is 1hr 25, which I'm thinking will be just enough to sample the lounge in Jakarta. The return is similar. Travel is on A330-200 + 737-800 for the smaller sector. Both appear to have a J class service. I am comparing this to other J class prices and still can't find anything within a grand of this fare. It would be good to hear from anyone who has made this trip before to see if there is any catch! BTW, does anyone know if Garuda still use Qantas lounge in Sydney?

shouldn't be any catches!! the 330-200 with full flat beds is a good, and the 737 not too bad... it is regional business class, will be fine.

comparatively speaking, the fare is quite high!! Garuda is selling Europe for about $3000 odd, so $2189 just to Bangkok must be making them some money :)

Huh. That's food for thought - ah well, more research to do now...

i just flew virgin j to Bali and Garuda J to Hong Kong on a 738. Garuda walked all over Virgin in terms of room and comfort, food and even avod too. Service was on a par. The Lounge at Jakarta is nice and comfy.

If only Garuda had good priced one way flights like they used to i would not have wasted the money on Virgin. Ps I did email virgin to suggest some improvements, like a footrest for instance....They gave me a $100 credit.
