Does any one have any news as to when the new QR First lounge at Hamad International in Doha will be opened?

I am travelling March 2015 but have only read about the J lounge so far.
Surely the F lounge can't be far away from completion

Thanks for the link to the video.

The Business lounges look great as does the arrivals lounge - but the 1st lounge is still under wraps.

Still got 3 months till I travel thru so hopefully the 1st lounge doors will be open when I get there.

QR are being rather vague about the opening date.

You could always goto the QR First lounge that is available to Oneworld Emaralds, probably not as good as real First lounge that will open in the future.

Speaking of that does anyone have any pictures of the QR 'First' OWE lounge?

Will be in Doha later tonight and should be able to provide an update on the Al Safwa lounge.
According to the chat on FT the opening is still months away.

Maybe I will be able to have a peek inside from the door with my QR First boarding pass in hand?

Is this your first time on QR? or more importantly QR First/Business?

I flew 2 QR first flights and 2 QR business, on a mixture of 787's, an A320 and a 777. The 787 suites are awesome!
Enjoy!

Yes, first time on QR and in F.
It looks like the preceding flight to LHR (QR 7) has been cancelled so my flight (QR 9) now looks chockers on the Expert Flyer seat map.

Also concerning is it is showing up as a 333 rather than a 346 and I am not sure what to expect if I get a smaller plane with 12 F seats v the larger plane with only 8.

Really, really wanted to fly on one of QR's 388's but they pulled F availability off these within days of receiving their first one in service.

Also looked at the 787 service to Zurich and then on to LHR but didn't really like the thought of of paying fuel fines to BA for the 2nd leg.

According to the QR front desk at the Al Mourjan lounge, the opening of the Al Safwa 1st lounge is one and a half months away!

But - I get the feeling that they don't really believe this and looking at the amount of work still going on the still closed off 2nd level of the terminal I wouldn't be getting my hopes up for an opening this side of June.

Really looking forward to this lounge I feel it will be spectacular. Might be passing through in August so hopefully open by then !

Just as an aside, the old QR First lounge still appears to be open - with staff at the desk but when i asked to go in they told me that all guests now had to go to the 'new' Al Mourjan First?/Business lounge.

I don't really understand why the old lounge is still staffed if customers cannot use it but looking around the rest of Hamad International Airport the number of employees everywhere is just simply jaw dropping.
Even the toilet cleaners in the lounge had a crew of 4 and I counted over 20 staff cooking and serving in the upstairs dining room.
The deli bar had a crew of 10+ as well as the chef - truly amazing service all round.

It is an interesting j lounge! Way too many staff, food is interesting (there are other menus too btw, eg an egg menu for breakfast). Krug was a nice touch, downstairs small restaurant has some interesting stuff too (note I don't see people drinking too much in the lounge, especially not downstairs, which has zero alcohol bars iirc)

Tell me more about this Krug please? Is that the lounge champagne? Or does one need to look carefully for it?

The Deli Bar at the the far end of the lounge (furthest away from the stench of the 'Smoker's room) serves Krug on request or Bille-Carte Salmon if you just ask for a glass of champagne.

Most unfortunately they had run out of Krug only minutes before my last visit.

Available at the bar on the top level (just ask - they had around 4 different champagnes from memory).

When they get their proper F lounge opened, the rumour is the Krug will disappear.

Hopefully the F lounge is delayed until AFTER June then :)

What lounge can a QF WP use in DOH when travelling in whY on QR?

Would also be departing BKK on QR @ 2040 so I guess the QF Lounge would be the best option?
