I flew return MEL > LHR a couple of months ago on a Qantas Points Plus Pay booking. I had thought I would have received points and status credits for the paid leg (outbound), but when I contacted Qantas customer service, they replied with the following:

"We're unable to credit your account with Qantas Points and Status Credits for your travel from to on with as Charter flights or Industry fares aren't eligible for earning. Points for travel on Classic Flight Rewards are also ineligible for earning."

According to this page, unless I have misunderstood, one can claim status credits and points on a Points Plus Pay Booking: Frequent Flyer - Flying Qantas and Partner Airlines - Flying Qantas and Jetstar - Using Qantas Points. Under the 'Points Plus Pay - Flights' subheading, it states, "...Plus, you'll also earn Qantas Points and Status Credits on eligible flights* as you would with a cash fare."

I flew:
MEL > DXB QF8407
DXB > LHR QF8001
LHR > SIN QF2
SIN > MEL QF36

Can anyone shed some light? TIA.

Points+pay fares book into normal fare classes instead of award fare classes and earn at the rate they would normally earn at for that fare class. They are the same as booking a normal cash fare, only with points used instead of cash for part of the amount.

You should earn points/SC for all 4 of those flights, unless one was a normal classic reward. None of those flights are charters, and points+pay shouldn't be able to book into industry fare classes

Yes, as per @Himeno , this response is incorrect and is typical of the poor outsourced Qantas Customer Service these days.

I would suggest you best best is to call QFF and specifically mention POINTS PLUS PAY. Do not mention "classic award".

FWIW, can you advise how many points this cost and what was the cash component you needed to pay?

Thanks @Himeno and @serfty . I used the online chat function yesterday to get it rectified and had both my status credits and points credited to my account.

It cost me 60k points and I had to pay $1,201.88 total. Not sure how much of that was in fees for the Classic Rewards component. It ordinarily wouldn't be the best use of points, but I needed to fly to London at short notice and Qantas flights from memory were over $2k return at the time.
