It isn't clear if this applies to properties only located in Australia though.

Annoying that it only counts bookings made via the QF website. So no luck with the booking I made last week for Tokyo later this month. :(

News came out just as I was looking for somewhere to stay in Oslo, so hopefully that goes through.
That Oslo booking was coming up cheaper via the QF link then from the normal search on airbnb.

While QFF points are good my experience with AirBNB more recently is that their prices are a lot more expensive than they once were.

When it first started up there was a lot of truly cheap accommodation. However more and more today it seems to be more that the advertisers have jacked up their prices to those of commercial hotels. While they often still have the advantage of more space and features, they also do not offer the same services and in particular 24/7 checkin/out and daily cleaning etc which then to my mind often makes them overpriced.

On my last trip to Europe in July/August I discovered that many AirBNB properties offered were also in say Booking.com, but were cheaper as the AirBNB % was not applied.
- in the I only used AirBNB 3 times and it would have only been once except that AirBNB had some discount promos that took them back slightly under Booking.com options.

How is everyone else finding them today?

Cancel and re-book through the new link?
Not likely to happen with the cancellation polices of many hosts in Japan.

How is everyone else finding them today?
Only used them twice so far, both times in Tokyo last year. Only went to airbnb the first time because the places I usually stayed at in Tokyo were booked out when I was there. The second time was an overnight connection and was better located with transport options and cost.

I have seen a lot of airbnbs asking for much more then a 3+ star hotel down the road, but that appears to happen mostly in the US and Europe. Some of the worst I've seen have been some entire apartment rentals in Portland, OR near the convention center for $1000/night with even 5 star hotels less then 10 minutes walk away asking for $300.

The only way to do that is to call up Airbnb and tell them you paid with the wrong card, then they may allow a change without it involving the bkg itself. Cancelling gives you a very black mark and costs money. Hopefully, a different card is available?

I have done this successfully. The phone number is buried on their website I seem to remember.

Cancel and re-book through the new link?

Just made a booking for Iceland for next year, I love the space and facilities that are provided above a hotel room. I have about $1800 worth of bookings to do so I will gladly take the extra points.

I am about to book a similar scale of booking for BER. Perfect timing.

Does airbnb work? Tried my first last night for MEL CBD - apartment available and funds withheld then came back this am as being refused and will take 7 days to get hold removed on funds. Then they sent other available properties that were dreadful. Almost bait and switch. Then this announcement in the midst of it this morning and laughed.

Yes it does. I have had the most amazing experiences with Airbnb. I only pick high end properties with rave reviews, prefer SuperHosts and only choose ones that are holiday rentals.
NZ, UK and USA all perfect.

Fantastic announcement that is sure to add more clout for booking with Airbnb over conventional hotels, particularly when one is seeking self catering options which can be very limited and over priced on hotel booking websites.

Whilst in some cities such as New York, where " entire properties" are prohibited on Airbnb, due to local laws specific to that city which are in place, conventional hotels will win the day in some cases. Although many of the offerings available on Airbnb are truely unique and cannot be found on conventional hotel websites.

Such examples of unique Airbnb experiences' include Train Carriages converted into cottages in the Hunter valley vineyards and farm stays in Victoria's High Country.
With Qantas points now available on Airbnb stays, the decision to book with Airbnb is even more compelling.

This one had rave reviews too. OK, might give it another go. AirBnB substitutes were awful, including one that was a share house! We were looking for an Apartment in Docklands/Southbank. Why it gave us that option is nonsensical.
