WP requested 2 x U seats for QF26 HND-SYD in April 2021 - success!

Was showing I9 prior, unsurprisingly.

Have you considered QF on this route? Might be easier to request a seat.
I had no issues getting reward seats online for CNR-BNK; booked two weeks ago for mid to late Oct. Only 16,000 pts each, return - bargain. We picked the QF flight for the leg SYD-BNK so we didn't have to get luggage and recheck it. Dash 8 takes 1h20m, compared with 1h15m on JQ A320, so not much difference.

QF would ordinarily be preferable however the passenger is joining others who have already booked on JQ.

I've rung QF and they've advised that they cannot request classic seats on JQ for platinum FF.

Noob question here: can WP ask for domestic J or Y release too? I see most of this forum is about the more valuable international flights of course, but well...

HND-SYD mid Nov 2021 I8->U2 - robot says yes. Both WP.

Had 2 x U seats on QF26 booked for mid April which I'd wanted to move to later in the year, and had been waiting for QF international inventory to load. Thought about changing to JL51 instead (am booked in F on JL52 on the way over, if it goes ahead) but cheaper points cost and allure of Points Club SC convinced me to keep the booking with QF. Will likely need all the SC I can get next membership year.

I anticipated seats would be easy to come by just after bookings reopened, but this was a mission. Couldn't find any classic award seats on QF26 or QF80 (MEL-HND), and to top it off ExpertFlyer was showing I0 for two straight months from late Sep through to late Nov, with the exception of the date booked. Looks like Qantas are banking on heavy demand to/from Japan later this year.

Hi all - do Qantas charge WP's reward assistance fees for creating bookings that involve the release of Classic Reward seats?

From memory no. I requested reward seats back in late 2013 or early 2014 as a WP and do not recall be charged as requesting is a benefit of the status level. Sorry I cannot be more help, I have been P1 since early/mid 2014 so have become quite used to not paying fees other than fare difference.

Nope, have never been charged a fee for releasing seats. If they try to charge you, ask for it to be waived as you're unable to complete the booking using Qantas.com.
