QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic award seats?

48 hours is my experience and an email showed up (as noted by others) to call for the result.

How long does it take for the analyst to approve / disaprove a request as auto bot said no (looking at 2x Jnb-Syd in J)?..still says "on request" in Manage my Booking...request put on Sat pm (now Tues am). And how do they inform you?
Received email late this afternoon to call Qf...request declined and offered Jnb-Hkg-Syd in Cx in J x2 instead...
Travel time, points cost etc too much so didn't take it up...she advised me to try again in a few days...strange. Will probably use KF miles and come back Jnb-Sin-Syd instead :) (edit: and now booked Sq J x2 Jnb-Sin-Syd with widespread availability around my dates!)

Had a request approved by the system for PE for SYD-HND, a good result given its usually quite difficult to get reward seats on this route and revenue fares are usually high. Not successful for J and regular Y though.

I've had seats sorted while on the phone for a few international sectors previously.

I've had J approved on the spot before, if you are looking around Olympics or peak summer times that might be why...

A few days ago I requested SYD-LAX on QF17 flying on 22/12 in J but it's been declined. I noticed yesterday it's been switched to a reburbed bird which means exta J seats so I tried again last night but no luck.

Interesting today. We were booked on CX Adelaide - HK - CDG. Received notification that CX cancelled the HK - CDG flight and they put us on a flight out of HK 18 hours later. Now the F lounge is nice but 18 hours? And the arrival into HK being 5am and departure being something like 10pm meant that booking a hotel room and getting sleep wasn’t going to happen. Anyway I think that the Qantas rep was requesting that CX release two award seats the next day meaning just 3 hours gap. I think that has worked.

I just called the QFF centre and asked whether I would be able to get a J seat released for HKG-SYD. The EF availability is currently I9.

She told me that there is availability via Melbourne. I asked - I'd prefer the direct, is it possible to get a seat released? She said "Just hold a moment"...and then came back and said "I'm sorry, the only availability is the flight via Melbourne.

I'm a Platinum - is this the usual response these days to asking to have a seat made available?

I’ve been allowed to make requests even if it’s the only flight that day that isn’t available (eg 2 hours earlier could fly on reward). Like what Brett said, hang up and try again with someone new, sounds like they just couldn’t be bothered doing it

So I called again and when I asked if I could request to have a seat released as a platinum member, he initially said “When redeeming seats it’s a matter for there to be availability, not for platinum members to request it. But let me put you on hold and check this”

After a much longer wait (than the last call) he came back and said he would have to check availability and if there were empty seats then he could put in the request.

So yes sounds like the first one didn’t want to try but then this guy was kind of reluctant as well.

Sounds like you've hit two CSAs who have absolutely no idea.

Sometimes you have to coach the call centre agents to achieve the result you're looking for. Are you calling the Premium number, and if so at what times?
