To be fair the on time performance should be compared to other flights also.

QF 94 LAX-MEL 68% 43 min.
QF 12 LAX-SYD 61% 29 min.
QF 108 LAX-SYD 48% 32 min.
QF 12 LAX-SYD 61% 29 min.
QF 16 LAX-BNE 77% 24 min.

Stats from Expert Flyer.

QF8 from DFW goes to LAX and leg BNE - SYD cancelled. - anyone know the story

They normally do a 744 swap on Mondays, maybe there is nothing to swap today given QF52 was an ER instead of the scheduled 4 class which got subbed onto the Lax run yesterday with heavy J loads.

When QF 8 is late what happens to passengers booked to do the domestic leg BNE -Syd to catch connecting international flights. Do they get shuffled over to the BNE domestic terminal?

Happened to me last year. There was chaos at the check-in, confusion re baggage and we were required to catch the normal shuttle bus between terminals to reach domestic. As I was with 2 other P1's we were at the front of the queue for getting space on a domestic and connected OK to our long haul - which was delayed anyway. I always avoid this flight now as the only other time I took it the delay was close to an hour negating any transfer time advantage.

Yes. Thanks to this and the other thread from which it was spawned I am now unlikely to use this flight to leave USA. Indeed in a couple of weeks I am doing DFW to LAX on AA to connect with Qantas there.

Generally QF would know prior to the flight leaving DFW whether the flight is to be diverted to AKL unless in the case of emergency or if weather conditions change adversely en-route.

When there is a sufficient timeframe QF res would do a call out for those pax booked BNE/SYD on QF8 & they would be told their new flight number and that it now departs from the domestic terminal.

Are you talking about being in BNE flying to SYD on the QF8 to connect to an intl flight or coming inbound at SYD going to a domestic flight?

I don't see what confusion there would be in BNE - if you're on QF8 (on any other QF flight QF1-QF399) BNE/SYD connecting to an international flight then customs clear you out of the country in BNE so it's an int to int connection in SYD as you would arrive and depart from the international terminal ie no inter-terminal transfer required.

If your flight number BNE/SYD is QF400 and above then it's a domestic flight so you would need to take the QF shuttle bus from T3 to T1 in SYD. Your bags would still be through checked and you would get both boarding passes in BNE.

The one time I've had problems with a connx off QF8, it was because of storms in Oz having disrupted flights the day before; consequently my BNE-MEL was cancelled due to lack of aircraft. As soon as I turned on my mobile, there was a SMS from QF informing me of the canx and advising me to contact QF ASAP. This turned out to be the connections desk at BNE who handled the situation with their usual efficiency; given the fact that QF8 arrives into BNE early morning, I imagine there are very few scenarios where QF cannot perform some service-recovery for missed connections.

It was QF8 down to SYD that was cancelled so we had to transfer to a domestic flight. There was insufficient time to put out a call -hence the confusion at the terminal. I actually checked the flight status when I left home and it was still OK.

There was an occasion where they had a technical issue with a door which happened on or shortly after arrival in BNE which may have been the time you're talking about as there would have been no advance warning like diversions for fuel etc.

Hmm I'm on the Q8 BNE-SYD leg wednesday. Picked especially because Mr k_sheep has never been on a 747, or been upstairs in any plane.

Will be sad, but not surprised, to get shooed over to the domestic terminal.

Todays QF7 left, so won't be an issue.

Re: QF8 or should that be late? (Pilots arguing)

I am on QF8 BNE to SYD on thursday morning......not the flight I booked but was shifted onto it by QANTAS as heading to JFK via SYD. I came back from DFW on it in August and there was no problems.

Re: QF8 or should that be late? (Pilots arguing)

QF have spares they can use given 9 of the 16 744 fleet can do the route, not quite the case with the A380s with QF127 delayed later last week and eventually subbed by an A330.

Make sure you go to the international terminal in BNE & checkin around 90 mins prior to departure. They will issue your boarding passes for both QF8 & QF107.

Unless it has a stopover in NAN or similar for fuel :)

Nah .. it's looking good.
VH-OEG

And contrary to markis10 about spares, 747ER required for QF7/8.
Only 7 of those and I don't think OEB has flown the route.
