Hi

I have searched the archive but can find very little on J seating on a QF747, especially with the current changes to the fleet. Thanks to the current Global Sale we have just confirmed our JNB flights for next July/August and the upper deck seating plan has confused me a little as it does not resemble any of the seating plans currently available.

As QF63 is an all daytime flight I would prefer to be on the upper deck as in my limited QFi experience I have only flown A380 and have always wanted to sit upper deck on a 747. 17A/B is intriguing me and given we are the only current booking in J on this flight I thought I would secure them until I got some opinion. Seems very peculiar and I want to imagine that we have an acre of room but I am sure this is not going to be the case?

As the return QF64 involves an overnight and we will want to sleep soon after boarding I thought we may be better off in 4E/F as we will not be as keen for a window seat and unfortunately we are both only SG so rows 1 - 3 are not currently available to us.

Any opinions to help us would be greatly appreciated.

My guess would be that 16A/B and 18A/B might be blocked for SAA pax to choose from.

As for the return it looks like a four class config so 4E/F would be the old F seats. (Nice for a sleep.).......be aware that the aircraft might change so you may not find yourself in the F sleeper seats.

SAA as part of their codeshare buy certain seats as such, hence the reason you can't see them.

Thanks Tony. It is the same config plane in both directions but I need to experience the upper deck in one direction.

Some friends recently flew 16J/K to FRA and said they thought they were the better J seats. I am sure with the 747's there will be a change of config somewhere along the line, much like the A380 scenario.

Take the two exit row seats on the upper deck if that is where you wish to sit. Bucket loads of leg room.
