Hi all

I have 2 award bookings in PE for QF5 SYD/SIN in Sep. Today I logged into my QFF account and saw a note that the flight had been cancelled and the PAX had been rebooked on SYD/BNE/SIN (where SYD/BNE is in economy and BNE/SIN is PE). Both PAX are my missus and son. I am also booked on QF5 but did so via AA points redemption (and in J cabin).

The reason appears to be that the aircraft has changed and there is no PE cabin as a result.

I spoke with a QF lady today (Sunday) who was extremely helpful, understanding that QFF centre is not open on weekends and I would need to follow through with a call to QFF on Monday morning. She even went so far as to change my missus and son back to QF5, albeit in economy cabin.

Has anyone experienced something similar? I'd be keen to know what the outcome of your experience was as well as any "standard operating procedure" that typically applies in such circumstances, eg; what happens to the QFF points, any typical goodwill that the airline may apply, etc, etc. before I make the next call to QFF tomorrow morning.

Thanks in advance,
Sigh.

What exactly do you want, I would suggest you ask Qantas to change your booking to match what they have offered your family if at all possible, sounds like an A330 is operating, your better off going via QF51 unless the lounge experience outweighs no PE and MK1 Skybeds.

I would suggest that you should get a refund on the points difference between the PE award and an Economy award.

(I would probably have stuck with what they had offered in the first place though)

Yep I would've stuck with the PE via BNE and asked to change the J award.

I'm hoping that the points refund will merely be a matter of course (having not encountered this situation before). The wife and son on a different flight is not really an option as we'd much rather travel together, albeit in different cabins. The only downside I can see other than flying in economy for points is the poor redemption value, compared with a premium cabin.

I'm not sure if Qantas would move me onto another flight given my booking was via AA advantage points redemption but I will ask tomorrow if this is an option.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If needs be, and there is availability, AA should be able to change your flight to match your family. As origin/destination are the same there should be no change fee.
