Booked a shortish notice trip to Singapore in January.

Award availability only in Y for QF35, with F booked on EK404 for the return.

Now tossing up whether I should have booked JQ7 in J instead.

Worth the extra points?

JQ have a tendency to/can be late departing.
Yes if you have a day and a bit after planned departure from Australia just in case there is a delay or cancellation.
I have done JQi before, good window outside views but their J service is not really comparable to QFi J.
No welcome on board drink, bit rushed service...
JQi is only only good for personal space at cheaper price than QFi J. And higher SC earn but other than that EK or QF J is better.

Thanks. I have a 2:45 connection to Koh Samui with QF35. JQ7 would extend this to 3:20.

This is on a separate PNR so there is some connection risk.

Personally I don't think JQ J is worth paying much extra for over QF Y. I would take QF35. Less risk of the flight being delayed, and I personally find the QF A330 Y seats to be almost as comfortable anyway.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thanks for the advice folks, I'll stick to QF35 Y in 24A and 24B thanks to the Sri Lankan seat selection hack and save the points.

Will be quite the contrast on the EK404 F return.

It may be valid to state that QF 35 is more likely to be on time than JQ7. But it is ridiculous and false to claim that the QF Y seat is anywhere close to the quality of the JQ J seat.
Let's keep it real, folks.
(Definitely worth purchasing a JQ Business seat. Generally not worth redeeming them)

I agree with browski. The JQ 'business seat' is the equivalent of the old QFd business class seats (and those still found on the 737s). Wide, extra legroom, no fighting for the armrest, plenty of overhead space, deep recline. If you can score a bulkhead there's even more legroom, and space for you to stretch your legs fully horizontal. Service is also the same, if not better, than QFd, including the food and champagne.

I've recently had flights from SYD-DPS in both the JQ 787 and the QF 737 business seats and I would strongly disagree that they are equivalent; I don't know why but the JQ seat was very hard and incredibly uncomfortable to sit in after a couple of hours.

I would also disagree that service is the same; the food was not pleasant on the JQ flight and the crew no more proactive than I've experienced in JQ economy.

I may have just gotten very unlucky with my flight but they're still on my no-fly list (unless they are the only carrier available as was in this case).

I would take Row 4 QF economy over JQ business any day of the week.

The comparison discussed was between the seats in JQ Business and Qantas Economy (not QF Business)

I was responding to a post that quite clearly stated the equivalence to a business class seat on a QF 737.

FWIW I did also give my opinion on JQ business vs QF economy.

I may have just gotten very unlucky ...

It might be that the JQ Bali flights are catered differently? I believe the cabin crew do a same day turn as well, possibly meaning different service performance.

My flights to BKK have been consistently good, with food equivalent to QFd, but with upgraded beverages.
