Several times last year I flew QF29 as part of BNE-MEL-HKG-SYD-BNE as the timings suited me better than going direct (yeah, that and the extra SC's!). I have just tried to book the same trip for mid June, and QF29 MEL-HKG doesn't appear on the QF booking system. The OneWorld Timetables tool shows it as an option.

Is it just a seasonal thing?

I prefer to travel overnight and get to HKG early morining, but now QF only shows daytime flights. Looks like it is CX138 SYD-HKG (and miss out on the extra 5 SC's)

E/F shows it no problems.

Loads seem ok except for the 18th-21st, 24th-30th where it's Y0/B0 (B1 on 28th)

Flight still exists every day.Maybe something about the dates you tried?

Loads seem light expect for the 18th-21st where it's Y0.

That would be whY (pardon the pun), that is the weekend I am trying to travel, and I looked 18, 19 & 20 (as I want to travel on the 19th). I wonder what the occasion is? If you want to travel on the 17th, you can go via MEL for less than $600.

I've done it twice in the past three weeks, so it certainly still exists - as the only daily HKG service (vs 3 per day from CX) I couldn't imagine them taking it away

A friend of mine went over to HK and back 2 weeks ago for 4 days. Over in J on QF29 and back in F on QF30. apparently fairly quiet on way over but dead [2 pax in F] on way back so not sure how loadings are going for QF in the premium cabins.

In J upstairs on both occasions for me, it was full - not sure about J downstairs, but there was a HUGE queue for Y pax at boarding, so I think it would have been pretty well filled out.

IIRC - on E/F before my last QF29 on Sunday, it was showing J1 - not sure about the previous trip or the other classes.

You need to remember that this QF 29 continues onto London, so picks up Pax HK - Lon.

Also QF now have second flight out of Melbourne, not everyday, but leaves during the day which suit those only going to HK. I know three guys who have changed to this flight.

Made me check my bookings in a panic. I can confirm that QF29/30 is alive and well.

I doubt QF would stop this QF29/QF30 flights as they fought hard for a number of years to get approval to go beyond HK onto London.

Everybody can stop panicking, QF29 still exists, it is just already full for the days I want to travel, and so doesn't show as an option on qf.com.

Anybody else going to be in HKG around 19th June and know why it is so busy?

I flew it twice late last year, once in F and once in J. Premium cabins chockers on all flights.

Which days of the week? All QF international flights seem to be chockers in premium cabins on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday most weeks.

QF29 was chockers in J when I flew out on Thurs night in Jan this year.

I have flown a couple of times on this route (although usually via SIN) and nearly every flight is always full. A couple of exceptions when i have flown on a wednesday for example when it is a little bit lighter load.

A Tuesday and a Wednesday to HKG, a Saturday and a Sunday coming back.
