I’m confused :)

Flying EK first time LIS-MNL via DXB and thought my status didn’t matter...lovely check in girl was surprised I lined up for several minutes in the economy lines and proceeded to advise all my priority boarding and lounge rights as a OWE Emerald.

I thought this only counted on select EK/QF flights?

Not complaining! Currently enjoying the TAP Portugal (*A) lounge but disappointed in my lack of research and self belief in my AFF abilities!

I think the check-in rep is s mistaken, you have benefits courtesy of QF Platinum - not OWE.

This includes F check-in, EK (though not partner) Lounge Access - including F Lounge Access at DXB and Priority Boarding. I've also found that EK will provide Express Security passes for certain ports: MEL outbound at check-in and DXB transit and MEL inbound courtesy of the Cabin Supervisor (not always CSM) onboard. Typically your bags will also be tagged for Priority Handling however I've only known this to be effected at CDG where Priority Bags are delivered on a separate belt to non-Priority.

BD

QF Platinum was mentioned not OWE my mistake...a nice surprise.

TAP Portugal would be a partner lounge however still got access.

Any recommendations for DXB lounges? Is there only one F lounge?

I am not an expert on DXB as every single time I have flown through there I was feeling "disoriented" ;) But the F lounge there I always find myself in is huge - it is as big as a small airport, with several bars / restaurants / etc etc. Depending on your stopover length, you will decide how you spend the time. It is a big airport, very busy, so make sure you work out where you are and how long it will take to get to your departure gate.

Each to their own, but if I was doing your flight I would take it easy and try for some rest on the first leg, have an absolute fun time in the DXB stopover, then try to sleep it off on the last leg. You probably wont read this until DXB, but whatever happens, I hope you enjoy :)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Three: Concourse A, B & C.

A is the best IMO. A classic lounge - and it's huge - basically it's a mirror image repeated L & R of the entry. B is good but a 'modern' (ie. sort of Scandinavian) style. C is the smallest. If your flight is out of a A gate, you're in luck - stay put. If your gate is a B or C and you have plenty of layover time, my suggestion is work up an appetite and thirst going to the A lounge ;).

So am I!

You mention OWE. That in itself is not enough to get reciprocal status benefits when travelling EK. (e.g. BAEC Gold is *O Emerald, but no bennies from that when flying EK)

Qantas Platinum will generally get said status benefits when travelling EK (with some exceptions such as in relation to USA flights) - also being *O Emerald is irrelevant in this case.

So, are you QF WP? [edit]Just noted the title, yes![/edit]

I am QF Platinum.

Impressed with all the benefits on EK as it’s basically the same as if I were flying QF metal (points/SCs excluded)

Landed gate B and next flight is gate B so F lounge near the B gates (easy and fun to get lost). Great meal in the dining room and booked spa treatment.

Some quick shopping - I’ll sleep well onward to MNL!

I’ll do a trip report as it was my first time flying both QR (outward) and EK.

I agree that A is the best F-lounge. And the showers are much better in A! They are pretty awful in B and C.

The C F-lounge is much smaller than A and B but has all the offerings of the others. I really liked it - it was kind of more "convenient" for everything.... It's a no-brainer to go there eventually if your flight leaves from C.

The distances between A, B and C can be quite long, so it pays to eventually go to the lounge nearest your departure gate in good time.

Concourse A Flounge also has the benefit of direct boarding - however be careful that you're using the correct lift for your A380 deck ... I've been caught out before as a Y pax going from the FLounge (it could even have been while I was Gold and going from the A JLounge!).

One point I disagree on - the like-for-like benefits. I've found EK to be far more consistent and proactive in their application (again particularly with respect to on-board) of QF benefits than QF themselves ... moreso when I was QF SG, which would count for nothing onboard with respect to QF; 9/10 times greeting from cabin supervisor (sometimes CSM) and an Express Pass.

A further example is my first flight back from CDG as WP travelling Y ... I'd carefully select my forward cabin aisle seat on the lower deck A380 and did so on this occasion. At check-in I was asked to move to an exit row - which I agreed to. Upon boarding the machine "pinged" and I was handed a new BP. Glancing at it I saw to my horror that I was now seated in a rear cabin window seat (full A380!!). I protested, outlining how I'd moved from my preferred to accommodate EK and then been moved again to a woeful seat. After much tapping of keys I was not only assured that my seat was behind a row of B/C only, I was escorted on to the plane and shown the seat ... and a friendly word to the cabin crew ensured all my drink requests were met with double miniatures ... !!

Can't quite see QF going above-and-beyond to that extent.

That's been my experience as well - and others' I've read. My theory has been that EK have been pro-actively trying to 'pinch' the business of QFF status pax by being pro-active with recognition etc. Works for me!

We got lost trying to board from the lounge too! There was no one there to give instructions.

On all four of my QR and EK flights I was greeted by the CSM and asked if I wanted anything.

Alas 3 of my 4 flights were old equipment but I did score the QR A350-1000 in J for one of the legs...
