hi there, not sure if this is the correct place to ask as some of the categories seem to have changed ...

anyway ... lets see.

I am interested to know about the comparison between the premium economy products on offer at QF and CX. also interested to know if I can get lounge access etc through CX (QFF WP)

I need to go to Johannesburg and those paying my airfare will only stump up for Premium Economy. Their preference is CX (don't ask why). The CX flights from BNE to Johannesburg actually aren't too bad time wise and I could jag a stop over in Hong Kong too ...

For info, the flight BNE - HKG is on an A330-300 and the Hong Kong - JNB is a 777-300ER

Obviously QF have their 747 from SYD direct to Johannesburg ...

like I said, curious for insights / comparisons between the 2 products.

I am a QFF Platinum for what it's worth.

As a QFWP the lounge access isn't an issue. All lounges will be available to you.

As for the actual hard product I'll leave that for others to answer.

Simply

CX is Y+ (only seat & leg room is bigger, same food & drink as Y)

QF is J- (superior product)

In the past QF had an edge by serving F&B from the J menu, nowadays not so much given how dire the J catering is (CX has fallen victim to the same with their own cost cutting).

I rate the new generation CX PE seat above QF's for comfort and IFE.

Pick your preferred carrier based on schedule.

Check the points and status credit earn if planning to credit CX to QF too.

Agree with @yohy?!

The hard product CX is better, but soft product QF is better. Which might help with the decision around when you're flying.

Day flight i'd pick QF, night flight I'd pick CX.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

yeah ok thanks. I don't really mind about the points and SC earnings either way ... got too many of them things.

maybe the stop over in Hong Kong might be the deciding factor ... I like Hong Kong for a couple of days just lazing around :)

OT -I often think of that ad which came out when I was a kid. The idea that a 'bank' having an office in HK showed just how many offices they had around the world didn't seem absurd to me then.

Found CX PE was more in line F&B wise with QF on long haul segments but decidedly Y on Aus to HK. That said I've also seen QF PE main dishes that were simply the Y dish in a better container.
Given the Y breakfast on eg QF9 now, the only difference PE has is really some fresh fruit.

The CX seats are more comfortable, but I agree with others, the meals not quite as good as QF. I’ve also found that CX PE is a bit cheaper and easier to get a busy times, which also plays into consideration.

Lounge access is not a problem if you have status already. I personally prefer CX lounges to the Oneworld, as it has a wider variety of food and sitting areas.
