QF Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

The upgrade fairy was in my favour on a recent BNE to US trip. QF55 BNE-LAX on 16 Jan Y+ to J confirmed 72 hours in advance, and on return QF56 LAX-BNE on 25 Jan Y+ to J 24 hours in advance. And on one leg Omaha - LAX on AA I got an Op Upgrade Y to J as well. Wish it was like that more often :)

Success on QF 10 PER-MEL Y+ to J for 9000 points in the Lounge. The original booking was a Classic reward in Y+ 27000 points each way.
So it was only in the lounge that you made the request? Pretty good deal.
 
INdeed I had tried online and then on the phone with out success just happened to ask at the Lounge and hey presto 9000 points later all done. It amazes me how something so simple could be so difficult for the premium line and chat to master.

You are asking too much!

They would have to know the only fare buckets you cannot upgrade from internationally are N, O, Q & E.

(Award buckets U, X and Z are fine.)

They would also have to know that upgrades on QF9/10 between MEL and PER are treated as international and would normally be waitlisted like any other international upgrade.

Not sure they know it is in their job description they they would have to understand such things.</sarcasm>

Slightly strange one yesterday. Had requested two upgrades from J to F on QF36 SIN-MEL. No notification of success or failure prior to the flight, and when we checked in we received our J boarding passes in the usual way. Then, at the gate, BPs were rejected and the gate agent handed us new boarding passes with no fanfare - just a mumbled "you will be sitting in first class". No points deducted from my account so far and no text notification. Points and SCs for J class already showing in my account, but with no annotation about upgrade.

The flight must have been very full. J showed completely full at T-24; F still had 8 seats open. The CSM said that there were 515 people on board the flight (am assuming that must have included crew). I am wondering whether I got an op-up (I think the first in my life!!!). A sneaky look at the manifest in the galley for F showed 2 CLs, one other P1 besides me, a few WPs and the balance various including a couple of initialisms I didn't recognise (and don't now remember exactly what they were).
 
SWMBO was unsuccessful getting the shift from Y to J on QF7 from SYD-DFW earlier today, though she did get the consolation Y+, which she was still pretty ok with. Booked only a couple of weeks ago, full flex. She’s SG.

Nice! Does sound like an op-up. Any noticeable difference in service or treatment? If you were listed as P1 then presumably not.
 
Successful from PE to J on QF29 MEL-HKG x2 - got SMS 60 hours before flight, so well before the 48 hr mark for WPs. Won’t be a bad way to spend my birthday

Paid class: Discount Business
Upgrade to First: APPROVED
Points deduction: 18500
Showed up as "Business/First Reward New York/Los Angeles Upgrade" ... there's no First Class on the first leg but there certainly is on LA to Sydney (A380)
I enjoyed that LA to Sydney flight very much :p;):D
 
QF1 9th of March. WP. Request upgrade from flex Y to J or PE. I got PE. I hope there is still a chance I get J at the gate...

No luck at the gate. Hard to score J upgrades those days, even for WP.
 
After any clue as to the following: QF2 on 16th in PE x2 as Silver (dreadful I know) requested upgrades. Just looking on the QF app it says the seat map is no longer available. Does that mean anything?
