QF Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Very light load on this flight - had a choice of all but 4 seats in J and EF is showing all 9s.

Today - MrP from Y to J, Adelaide - Mel - Wellington. He vowed a few years ago never to travel to NZ in the last week of September as that is when they shift to DST. Making a 3.5 hour time difference which when you are working the next day means you are up and at it in 4am time ADL time from the day before. He forgot this year. :(:mad: But the upgrade will help especially as it is school holidays when the airports become a goddam zoo.
 
Quick question; my flight yesterday (BNE-PER, miraculously on time, must have been the only ones to get out on time) had only 12 -ish passengers in J. Does that mean no one else put in a points upgrade request? Would they have gone to the bottom of the list (NBs, no status pax etc)? Just curious.

Most likely - most people don't value their points towards upgrades (like we do), they are saving them for classic awards for family holidays, short stays with partners or toasters/fridges etc from the QF Store :eek::rolleyes:

If I recall correctly, upgrades are based on status level first and foremost, then within each level the time at which requested (exclude Chairman lounge as they are space available upgrade certainties). So all Platinum Ones are the first to be upgraded (no matter when they requested but still in their own internal time order), then Plat are second (same bracketed info), then Gold etc. Some higher status members don't use their points upgrade requests, as they are hoping for operational upgrades.

Indeed, I get the offers nearly every trip but rarely bid as mostly short flights and if I bid I only go the minimum. Save the points mostly for non-QFF family members classic rewards. I must look into the toaster situation, I need a new one! :)
 
Thanks for your response QF WP. Personally 25000 points is well worth it for a 5 hour + flight (we had headwinds) in J on the A330-200 IMHO. I managed to sleep for over 2 hours. Upgrade for the midnight express return trip went through immediately, very happy, did not fancy 5 hours in Y arriving into BNE at 5am!

Not I, but probably somebody in QF Loyalty could have a crack. I would hope that the CV would come into the decision by the team that look at pax upgrade opportunities starting from T-7 days (P1) and lesser.

Upgrade success from Y to J for tonight's QF6 out of SIN for SYD. Unfortunately, it is one of the 2 un-refurbished 332s :( Oh well, still beats Y, and almost a par for me against the leather-clad domestic suites which I struggle to sleep on, even when fitted with the 'mattress'. Now at 93.8% success for upgrades as WP.

Does anyone know where PCV (perceived customer value) comes into this?

It shouldn't have a bearing, except perhaps as a tie-breaker, as that would be contrary to the T&Cs.
Also, I'm not sure at which point in time PCVs are assigned for a given flight.

16.3.2 Qantas Loyalty will determine which requests for Classic Upgrade Rewards will be awarded, if any, at any time between seven days and 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the flight from its port of origin, depending on the Qantas Frequent Flyer status level of the Member.

16.3.3 Classic Upgrade Rewards will be awarded to Members according to their Qantas Frequent Flyer status levels in the following order: Platinum One Members first, then Platinum Members, then Gold Members, then Silver Members and then Bronze Members.

That continues my 100% success rate so far on this route! Though my previous upgrades were from PE.

One has to love the upgrade lottery when you're successful!

Had been hoping a seat in the nose or upstairs would be available, but it wasn't, but a seat in J is a seat in J! Got an aisle seat.

That was likely the case a decade ago but not these days.
