QF Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Was it QF93?. Im assuming not QF95 from your timing. Can you please see what fare bucket you purchased in Y?

It was QF94.

Saver fare - I can't tell which letter it is, now that the booking only shows U when I go into it.
I remember buying the cheapest upgradeable fare because I didn't want to risk spending more money only to lose the lottery.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Can I ask whether upgrades are more or less likely on the Dallas-Sydney route compared with the LAX-BNE/SYD routes?

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

First big upgrade disappointment for me.
On QF12 tonight from JFK. Put in upgrade request from J-F. Cabin was wide open a few days ago checking on EF. Upgrade came through as "Declined" overnight. There are still two vacant seats in F and judging by the scattering of empty seats in Emerald city coupled with corresponding filling of the F cabin I'm reasonably sure that some upgrades have been given.

Just wonder whether your request was a casualty of the fact that QF12 ops as a 3 class 744 JFK/LAX then a 4 class 388 LAX/SYD?

If that was the case the system may be looking for a 'P' seat ex JFK so might have declined on a technicality because no such cabin exists on a JFK/SYD basis.

This is just a theory as I don't know how they would enter such a request iwhen there is a split cabin involved.

I remember searching for PE award availability BNE/DFW once and it would only display options that had PE the whole way eg QF8 BNE/SYD connecting with QF7 SYD/DFW ie it wouldn't show a domestic flights BNE/SYD in X or U connecting with Z SYD/DFW.

I think the above scenario may have been rectified now however I can't recall reading here anybody reporting a successful upgrade J to F on QF11/12 SYD/JFK vv only SYD/LAX vv.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Just back from Dallas, got upgrade QF 7/8 which was a good outcome for such a long flight.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Scenario is: A WP family member requested classic award seats for our US trip a while ago. We got F on the way over but they wouldn't release anything on the return leg. As a result we have LAX-BNE for 2 people in Y on the way back. Obviously we will put in for an upgrade as classic awards are now upgradable. Question is will there be more chance of it coming through if the family member puts it through or if I do it from my own account (NB)? Any guesses on the chance of success on this route?

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

flew back on Sundays QF94, which arrived this morning and we had 2 upgrades on points accepted J to F. Only 9 in F, not full.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

An update from LAX
No upgrade forthcoming
Will follow up as I think there's some weird stuff going on

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

My flight upgrade to J tomorrow night just cleared (T-27)

I heard you were coming so went to Sydney for a few hours...

Can possibly do afternoon tea in Melb, South Melb, or Prahran if you have time?

No. Makes no difference. That is a P1 benefit only.

penegal, there's no need to escape MEL - well maybe the cold weather but not because of me. Waving from our respective airports

Having the same issue with tomorrow's QF9 (J-F). Have been following availability like a hawk for the last week. As of about 5pm tonight (T-30) there were two seats left in F, at about 6.15pm clearly one upgrade from J to F processed and now I can't see the seat map anymore, however availability shows as F1 A0. My upgrade request was submitted in October last year. I can only imagine that the upgrade that processed this evening was a fellow WP, as surely CL and P1 would have gone at some stage during the last week.

I think it unlikely that I'll now see the upgrade. That will be the first time in about four years that I have missed out.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

A friend who is QC PS requested an upgrade from PE award to J for QF9 MEL-LHR. He was unsuccessful from MEL-DXB but was successful from DXB-LHR. He got a seat in Emerald City.

Just hoping that the issues with waitlisting that plague the domestic upgrade process are now not also gremlins in the international upgrade system.

All sorts of things could have happened. Geez, someone could have been stupid enough and actually purchased the seat.

I have a couple of J>F upgrades in the system over the next couple of weeks ... can't see myself posting - how I didn't get the seat!

Especially when we know of cases where paid J seats get downgraded to Y.

Sorry, I know it was a first-world whinge, but I had been following seat maps and availability closely for the last week. I was fairly certain the seats were not purchased.

Anyway, I woke up to an SMS at 1.44am this morning confirming that my upgrade request to F had been successful :) This is the latest I've ever had an intl upgrade process, but I am very thankful it did.

I <3 U, QF :p

No need to apologise. This is the natural habitat of the first world whinge :). Hope you enjoy your flight as that's an early SMS no one would mind.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Because I have a truckload of points (thanks Epiqure and it's only 10K points per sector) and on a whim (as I don't often get to travel on A332's), I opted to request upgrades on my upcoming (Monday next week) QF501 BNE/SYD (@ T-91). Seems that I am on the waitlist.

I thought I'd also try for an upgrade on my return (Tuesday QF548 7.05pm) and it was granted immediately (@ T-128). Nothing exciting as it's a 738 but I want dinner (in case I don't get a chance to get to the J Lounge, as happened last night in MEL).
