Following the success of Qantas’ Domestic Faster, Smarter Check-in, Qantas, in conjunction with Heathrow (ex BAA), is introducing the very first automated, self-service bag drop at London’s Heathrow Airport.

Two self-service bag drop units have been installed in Qantas Economy (Zone F) to be used by both Qantas and British Airways customers from today. The functionality is very similar to the Auto Bag Drop Qantas Domestic customers use, creating speed and ease through the terminal.

We know that customers want a quick and seamless check-in process, and this is the first step to launching more elements of Faster, Smarter Check-in internationally.

Once customers check-in at a kiosk, they have the option to drop their bags themselves at an automated self-service bag drop.

All Australian, New Zealand and British passport holders travelling to Australia as their final destination and who have not checked-in online, can use the self-service bag drop.

Premium customers can still choose to check-in at one of the premium, hosted check-in counters in zone G.

Why is it online checkin is excluded?

Anything that helps speed up the process and gives customers more choice and/or convenience is a good thing.
