I'm looking for QF flights from Sydney to Vancouver in early December but can't seem to find any non-stop flights - does Qantas still fly that route?

It's seasonal. They did fly that route as recently as July 2018.

In the past it has been, but this may have changed.
Hopefully they do put the flights back on - going via LAX is probably going to earn more SC's but LAX isn't good for one's sanity!

I can still see QF75/76 SYD-YVR available for sale over the winter/summer peaks. It looks like the first flight for the summer season is QF75 on 13 December.

I flew home for Christmas last year on it (left YVR on 21 Dec). If I recall it was thrice weekly.

Confirmed, service starts Thu 13 Dec and will operate on Mon, Thu & Sat in both directions

QF75
SYD 1915
YVR 1405

QF76
YVR 2000
SYD 0610 ++

I’ve got a booking on Thursday 20th December so hopefully they still do!

It's 3 weekly seasonal for 5-6 weeks over July and December/January.
Possible route to go regular 787 once the 2nd batch starts arriving late next year.

Many thanks for all the replies. Unfortunately my trip has to be before QF restarts the direct flights by the looks of it so I'm probably going to be going via the dreaded LAX.

Is SFO less dreaded?

I've heard that it is apparently much nicer to pass through than LAX but I haven't done it - others on here might be able to confirm though.

Air Canada flies direct, why not use them?

Do we get QF SC's with them? (I do need to accumulate some SC's on this trip) - if so I wasn't aware of that. Of the QF options the best of a rough bunch looks like QF444/73 then UA753 - afternoon departure from Melbourne via Sydney then early evening arrival into Vancouvour.

How many SCs do you need?

If you're going from MEL, you could get QF93 then WS1701 or AA6023.

No QF points or SCs from AC or UA. Points from WS, points and SC from AA. More of both if the WS or AA flight has a QF codeshare.

LAX is a lot better then it used to be.

Not sure when you last went through / heard about LAX, but it's improved out of sight in the past 5 years. Immigration process no worse than most other airports now, and better than many. Shops and facilities are good in TBIT, and most of the other terminals have also been re-firbed.

I wouldn't have any qualms about going through LAX these days.

The boss went to Vancouver earlier this year, from Sydney via Tokyo using JAL which means points and SC'c to QF. Only a bit longer than direct on AC, but she said she would happily do the JAL flight again to avoid going via the LOTFAP.
