Hi fellow travellers, I was hoping some of you have come across this before.

I am just finalising a multi-city economy flex booking PER-SYD-LAX-DFW-WAS-LAX-SYD-PER and I noticed that when selecting AA flights for the domestic legs within the US I earn more status credits than I do if I select a QF ticket (even when it is the same flight, AA metal).

This seems a bit odd, usually it is the opposite (e.g. EK vs QF tickets on flights to Dubai).

By selecting AA tickets instead of QF tickets for 3 of the flights the total status credits go from 325 to 370.

Does anyone know if this is a 'bug' or a hidden gem?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Cheers,JSS

Welcome!

I'm seeing a reduction on AA here:

Hi samh004, thanks for the reply!

Yes, and that is exactly what I would expect. However, see below screenshots of the two bookings (one all QF tickets, one with three AA tickets (same flight). Bizarre, isn't it.

I am tempted to go for the AA tickets, but of course it would backfire if it is a mistake and I end up with less SC :)

Thanks again.

Cheers,

JSS

EDIT: Too fresh here to post pics... But, every time I go to the final check page before booking it tells me the same: 325 SC for all QF tickets and 370 with three of the flights on AA tickets. Just strange. Only thing I can think of is that when booking a flex fare with Qantas it gets converted into something else for AA?

I have plugged in the exact route to the calculator and come up with different, but better numbers to compare.

On QF you are seeing 46551 points and 325 status credits for your journey. I however, see 51625 points and 380 status credits.

On QF/AA you are seeing 47425 points and 370 status credits. The calculator displays this to me as exactly the same as what you see.

I would go with the QF flights for the better gold points earn (75% bonus) but also the status credits in this case, however miniscule. But I would go back to the tables that QF has set up here to make sure the right information is being displayed.
