Hello,

Long time lurker, rare poster (picked up lots of tips along the way...)

Sorry if this is found elsewhere, but I was wondering if AA will give QFF SG/OW Sapphire benefits when flying AA with an AAdvantage number. I am flying JFK-LAX in september in Q (which i believe doesnt earn any points with QFF), so would like to apply my AAdvantage number. Will i still be eligible for waived bag fees for myself and partner and also will i be able to access Admirals club.

Thanks in advance.

Yes you just have to flash your card.
Baggage fees may be a problem as not all Aagents do know every rule.We did have to argue in BNA even though mrs.dr.ron had her WP number in the booking.

You won't be able to easily access elite benefits such as on-line preferred seat selection with no status in the booking.

What I do with such 'non earning' bookings is to put my statused QFF number in at the time of booking. I am then able to select preferred seats online.

I keep my QFF number in the booking until I am checked in, through security and in the AA lounge (AC/FL).

i.e. I check-in online, the BP should have Priority AAccess on it. I print out two copies. Then proceed to the airport, lodge any baggage at the counter, still with my QF number in the booking. I do this with just one of the copies, leaving the other for later.

After check-in I proceed through security (using any priority queue that may be available/operating) to the AA lounge. Upon entry after showing my QFF card, I provide my non status AA number and the BP; asking them to replace my QF number with it.

A new BP should be printed and the copy of the BP torn up/binned; the new BP will generally lose the Priority AAccess and show a group number.¹

If I then have the opportunity, I look the booking up on AA.com to check the AA number is correctly showing.

I head to the gate before boarding commences and board using the priority shown on my second copy of the BP (the one showing Priority AAccess)! The original barcode seems to work fine.

Is your booking one way? If so that's all you need to do. If it is a return/round trip and you still have further segments on the PNR, I suggest you get your QFF number back into the booking ASAP after completing the segment. Repeat the process for any subsequent segments where this may be desirable.

I know it's a pain, however it reduces the risk of "computer says no" issues.

¹ (Once in the LAX F/L they actually tore up the new one and gave me back the old one, telling me to board with it so I could keep Priority AAcess.)

Thanks dr.ron and serfty.

@serfty, its a one way ticket, so I'll make sure I'll be doing all those things at the airport. If i am unable to print out two boarding passes at the hotel any suggestions?

Yes, even if you have already used OLCI, you can employ the automatic check-in kiosks to print additional BPs (Certainly you can do this before checking luggage).

I doubt you'll have any issues as far a having the one world elite free luggage allowance at JFK, but here's the link to where it's noted on the AA.com website: American Airlines Checked Baggage Charge Exceptions | AA.com

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

This info also helps me heaps for my upcoming AA Y flights!
I have my QF number recorded for my YUPP flights but had recorded my AA number for the Y flights so I'll be sure to change it (and change it back again in the lounge!).

Thanks for your expert knowledge on this, Serfty.
