I've had a quick search and it seems that WP's can enter the BKK EK lounge if flying on QF24. Does this apply for SG's as well? Would be keen to try EK lounge for a change, I'm travelling in Y

1. Will Qantas Frequent Flyer Chairmans Lounge, Platinum One, Platinum or Gold Members have access to all Emirates lounges?
For travel on/after 31 March 2013 Chairmans Lounge, Platinum One, Platinum and Gold Qantas Frequent Flyers will have access to the Emirates lounges where available across Australia, Europe, North Africa, Asia and the Middle East. In Dubai, Chairmans Lounge, Platinum One and Platinum Qantas Frequent Flyers will have access to the Emirates First and Business Lounges and Gold Frequent Flyers will have access the Emirates Business Lounges.
Emirates lounge access is in addition to Qantas lounges, worldwide.
To access the relevant lounge, Chairmans Lounge, Qantas Frequent Flyer Platinum One, Platinum and Gold Members must be departing that day on a Qantas (QF) or Emirates (EK) operated flight.

Just a quick update, after check in I went straight to the EK lounge and the first response from the lady at the desk was:" your lounge is just around the corner" I replied that I would prefer the EK lounge, following which ensued much tapping on the key board, a phone call or two and finally I was let in (they did hang onto my boarding pass and SG card). Then they came back and wanted a photocopy of my passport too as I couldn't be "located on the system". I politely offered to show them the access rules kindly supplied by defurax above but that was not required in the end. At all times the staff were very friendly though.
Anyway, I'm enjoying the near empty lounge (just one other person in here) and the French bubbles (Moët) which I don't think is available in the QF lounge. Probably not a favourite of the champagne experts here on AFF but it will do this SG - it's usually just sparkling for me :))
So if you're planning to use the BKK EK lounge as a QF SG just be prepared that you may need to politely stand your ground :)

I agree with this. I have done this several times, and even as a WP each time they have created quite a bit of fuss about reminding me where the QF lounge is.
The sad truth is, QF have fallen far short of Emirates when it comes to lounge design (nb: it is pathetic that even the 4-star hotel I stay in for $80/night has several international plugs on the walls that take Aussie pins, and yet the QF lounge does not. Incredible oversight bordering idiocy on QF's part). In short, I always prepare for the battle and use the EK lounge.

At least in my case, they told me they did not announce for the QF flight, so you need to watch that champagne and remain quite alert of the boarding times ;)

I agree gypsy, I'll be using the EK lounge from now on.
Well, I've decided to try out the CX lounge too (just because it's there, across the concourse) after my share of the Moët! As has been noted elsewhere, this lounge is nothing like the EK one but blissfully empty too. No doubt the QF lounge will be a zoo at this stage. QF24 is showing zeros for all fare buckets on flight stats today (for what it's worth) so every WP, SG, QP and J pax will be in there at this stage. And you don't get much of a view. At least the CX lounge has views of the apron and you feel like you're in an airport!! Maybe another thread for best apron views from OW lounges coming up?? :p

I was in a similar situation at the EK lounge in BKK before QF24. Offered my boarding pass but was told I do not have access. I insisted and after some taps on the keyboard and a phone call they reluctantly allowed my inside.

I didn't need to show my WP membership card or passport though. And you're right, from memory there was only a handful of people in the lounge before the flight.

I wonder what they would have done with your passport photocopy? Fax it to QF HQ and ask for a $25 wire transfer?

A bit OT, but talking about lounge "Dragons" incompetence, here is the surreal discussion between the two BA First lounge dragons in LHR T3 last week:
Dragon 1 to me: Sir, can I see your boarding pass?
Dragon 1 to Dragon 2: It says Premium Economy and Cathay:shock:
Dragon 2 to Dragon 1: I don't think he has access...just scan the BP and we will see what the computer says!
Dragon 1: Ok (Bip).....................
Dragon 2: Do you see something?
Dragon 1: No...wait...no...maybe here...no...
Dragon 2 to me: This is the First lounge Sir, you would need to fly First or...do you have airline status?
Me to both idiots: Yes, it's written here and here, you see? The little letters there: E-M-E-R-A-L-D
Dragon 2 to Dragon 1: He has access!
Me: Oh, thank you so much so letting me in and have a LOVELY day!

I think BA use the First counter for training purposes...so that AFFers can train the staff:mrgreen:

Good luck getting a shower or finding a toilet in the CX lounge in BKK. Last time I was in there I was redirected to the public toilets outside.

Have looked at a couple of Youtube videos on the EK BKK lounge and if we are to get QF24 again it will be very definitely where we will be heading.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

I was there a month ago. I feel your pain.

I think the BNE domestic QP is a standout compared to the CX lounge at BKK !! What does that say ?

The QF one is just as cough. It's falling to bits basically. I noticed gaffa tape holding a fair bit of it together and the seats were full of stains. No coke zero or bottled water either.

Flying on QF24 soon so I'll definitely be using the EK one. Couldn't get to use the EK lounge on JQ30 (Even when I was involuntary re-routed from an EK flight. Probably could've pushed a lot harder)

But what it does have is a lot of business type people who think noise restrictions do not apply to them. Unfortunately the Qantas lounge suffers the same fate but the noise there is caused by children. And I cannot try the EK lounge as I am mainly flying MH out of BKK.

But seriously, when I walk into a lounge I want to have a bite to eat, have a drink or 2, sit at the desktops and relax before a flight. I don't want to sit and listen to some moron conducting a never ending conversation at the top of their voice.

I know. I was walking around the lounge for a few minutes wondering if I was going mad before I was told to hit the public dunnies.

The peace and quiet (and the weird massage chair) is what I appreciated about the EK lounge when I was there, and it will be my choice from now on if flying QF24. The food and wine was a touch better in the EK lounge as well, but QF lounge has it beat for shower facilities.

The EK lounge is currently boarded up and reportedly due to reopen in May.
In the mean time, pax are directed to the QF lounge.
The upside is that QF is now open from 0600, so handy for morning 3K and CX departures.

I was there last week around lunchtime (the day before your post) and did not even bother looking if the Qantas lounge was open.

Used the CX lounge in Concourse D and from memory there were only 3 people including me in the lounge. Would have been much better off in the Qantas lounge.

The downside is it's still BKK QF lounge :) was there on Sat and again not overly impressed... Moet? Really? :)
