Was just looking at route maps and the like, and noticed that Air Niugini (PX) flies not only to SIN and MNL (this I knew), but also to DPS and NRT (this I did not).

This sort of thing just happens to be the sort of (in my opinion basic) routing that (nevertheless) causes the QF award booking system to fail considerably  Perhaps partly due to the fact that the flight to DPS only operates on a Monday, and even the one to NRT is only twice each week, so award seating is likely hard to come across if ever there was some.

Given that flights with PX to MNL, SIN and NRT can all apparently be redeemed for 28,000 points, according to the airline partner webpage, would you suppose that DPS is also 28,000 points?

Or is there any chance that it is slightly less (I cannot recall the mileage table for QF redemptions) given that it's actually a shorter distance than POM – MNL or even BNE – PER for that matter?

Incidentally, any thoughts as to what the additional PX taxes/surcharges/fees would be for a route like this (POM – DPS)?

Sounds like a nice getaway, if you happen know locals in POM of all places (fortunately I do). DPS doesn't interest me, but then it could be a 'runway' to West Papua (yes, I have a thing for the exotic and far flung)...

In theory this would cost 20,000 Qantas points. (The mileage levels are based on distance and charts are published by Qantas.) Not sure about the taxes - but for a paid airfare on this route they appear to be around $90.

I suspect you might have problems finding award availability - either way, you would need to call Qantas to check if there are any seats and/or to book.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Well, better than what I was thinking at least; thanks for your input. Might have to give them a call soon...
