Have just flown Perth - Melbourne Qf476 - A330 Business / Melbourne - Lax Qf 95 - 787 Business, Lax to McCarran Aa1763 A321 First.

Loved the entire trip but a few musings to go over and comment on.
Perth Business Lounge - great quiet but reasonably busy lounge. Only downfall was arrived at 1030 so only serving coffee and juices. Unable to do own postmix soft drinks.
Perth to Melbourne - Good food servings and prompt attentive service. All crew were great.
Melbourne International Business Lounge - biggest let down of trip. Dark, not too busy but noisy. Won’t go too far into it but innatentive parents who don’t give a rats cough about other people in lounge main problem.
Melbourne to Las Angeles - Dreamliner. Expected a little bit more from the experience to do with this hyped up seat and sleeping quality. Found it hard to sleep mainly as bed was not soft and I’m not a back sleeper so found hard to get comfy position. Maybe 2-3 hours sleep max.
Biggest plus for the trip was the great staff of all who I can’t commend any higher, real assets to qantas. Great selection of movies and entertainment on Good responsive screen. One change maybe - had a great documentary movie on Geoffrey Gurramal but couldn’t find any of his music in the playlists. Just a thought but would of been good compliment to movie.
Transfer Lax international to domestic - was given express pass as flight was only 45 minutes after landing and was a quick and seamless process. Literally walked down, two person wait to get through customs, bags jumping out the chute as we walked up, walked around corner to recheck in and then next tbit-terminal 4 connection bridge was shut so had to go outside and line up again for security screen to get comnection. Made it to flight with 5 minutes to spare.
Los Angeles to Las Vegas- American Airlines -First class. Bubbly flight attendants. First class seat large spacious. Free flowing drinks for the short flight,

Overall great flights, I would fly again for the great Australian service on Qantas. American Airlines as well was great with very good service,

Maybe return trip I will get decent sleep on Dreamliner as might try a few different techniques that will hopefully work.

Thanks for that TR. I think you were extremely lucky to make your connection in LAX. You were obviously late arriving? I have made it to curbside a few times in 15- 30 mins, but I wouldn't have hoped for that tight connection, protected or not.

Dreamliner delayed out of perth and snowballed from there. Made up half hour flight time

Not sure if they've changed the rules (which is highly possible), but flying J with QF out of MEL T2, you should be able to access the Emirates lounge, if it is open. Infinitely better than the dungeon that is the QF int J lounge at MEL, usually quieter and with real Champagne.

I don't think you can use the Emirates Lounge when flying Qantas to the USA. Travelling to Asia, New Zealand or the Middle East/Europe is no problem though.

Agree though, the EK lounge is way better.

A shame the Dreamliner experience wasn't the best. Have you previously been able to get comfortable in Qantas J and, if so, what was different about the Dreamliner lie flat product?

Upon flying home vegas to lax was on time. Lax to Melbourne delayed initially hour due to passengers from New York. Nice quantas / one world lounge at Lax with good local menu of tacos which were a good last meal leaving the states. Then delayed 3 hours on the tarmac for operational drinking water.
Melbourne to Perth was able to stay on Dreamliner as was next available flight after missing originally booked flight.
Tried several things with bed and found raising the head slightly was able to sleep a lot better. Also slept with cpap as well which was welcomed by staff.
Stayed in international terminal and met couple as departing plane in same situation with delay as staff were handing out food vouchers. I guested then to business lounge and think they welcomed it after such a long flight. Shower was thoroughly enjoyed and lunchtime menu was decent.
Best part of flight was clearing customs in Perth which was super quick and efficient.
Will be WP after one more flight to work and back so there is platinum lining to the clouds ahead.
