I am in the unfortunate position (family illness) of having to cancel one leg of a return flight, the outbound segment.
I have rebooked the outbound as a separate flight, not knowing at the time the problems it would create. I therefore need to cancel just the outbound leg of the original journey. My travel agent says this cannot be done and i will have to cancel the whole lot.
Qantas tell me it can be done but only by the travel agent who booked the flight. They have to ring them and then they will do it.
I dont want to end up being a "no show pax" and end up in Hong Kong with no flight home or a $500 fine for missing the outbound segment.
I am not looking for recompense. I just want to being able to get my flight back.
Looking for advice. Thanks

Have you tried as QF have suggested? Get your travel agent to call QF to try to sort it out.

I spoke to them (QF) on online chat as i couldn't get through on the phone. They said Amex has to ring their Qantas Industry section. Amex point blank says cant be done. It's so stressful, my brother literally has hours/days to live and i am trying to do the right thing and no one seems to be able to help. Spent hours on the phone in between trying to sort work /kids out etc. I have sent amex an email , wondered if anyone has experienced the same.

It can be done, but what the Amex agent says is technically correct - they will need to cancel the first ticket and then reissue a new ticket. In the circumstance, QF may agree to waive any cancellation fee - I think that's why they said the agent needs to contact them.

I wouldn't waste any more of your time calling the airline otherwise they'll just refer you back to your TA. Just get yourself to HKG and email the TA to contact their QF industry contact to confirm that your HKG to Aust flight is still confirmed. Make sure TA tells QF of the compassionate circumstances of the trip.

Not sure when your outbound flight is but is it possible for the TA to rebook their ticket to the outbound date you want then get QF Industry Sales to authorise a refund on the second ticket you purchased, being the one way ticket Aust to HKG?
