So I'm trying to book a trip for May/June this year to the Caucasus (Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia) followed by the Balkans (Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia). Flights between the regions are going to be on Ukrainian or Aeroflot and thats another adventure altogether.

Thus I'm looking at an open jaw/multicity booking ex-CBR. I can see Qatar can get me to the Caucasus and back home again from any number of places, but I've chosen Copenhagen to do a quick trip to Legoland in Billund at the end. Thats great and the fare is cheap, but of course no FF points or SC's. I kind of rely on these overseas trips each year to at least try and retain my status which is Gold this year, but looks like I'll drop to Silver in August.

So I thought I'd see what I could book on QF emirates codeshares. Search engines give me quite a few results and online dodgy agents can sell me a fare for CBR-DXB and CPH-CBR for around the same as the QR fare CBR-DOH and CPH-CBR, but trying to book it on the QF website gives me no results. Asked the Qantas webchat and he said no, can't be booked, but that answer came back in less than aminute. I've extracted the flights out of ITA Matrix webpage.

So what would be the best way to tackle this. Give them to Qantas over the phone and ask them to book it?
Or do I just use a travel agent? Booking Qatar in a points earning class is still reasonable value and another $700 more though.

Call qf and get them to price it up, they should waive the fee as you can't do it online. I'm interested to see whether qf can actually price it up or not.

Giving QF a call or a travel agent, either should work. The former may cost you a service fee, but on the other hand only the carrier charges should you need to change anything (if done online)

UIA should be fine for flying too :).

I'm interested to know which fare class on QR you're referring to as being non-earning? If it's R class, this now earns at business rates with Qantas.

You need to call for some multi-city bookings on the Qantas website. There was no fee charged when we did this recently as there is no online option.

Wish I could afford Business on this trip but the fares are a bit high for this trip. If you do a multicity on Qatars website you get a choice of best fare or most flexible. Best fare is W it seems right now and its not in the table for earning QF FF points.

So interestingly enough I messaged them via their Facebook page last night just asking if they could do it, as the other day via their webchat service they told me it couldn't be booked. They got back to me and i gave them the flight numbers I wanted and they came back with a price under those online and less than ITA matrix also. So I'm going to book the Qantas flights tonight, they are around $200 more than Qatars non earning flights, but $600 less than Qatars earning flights and they earn more FF points and SC's (Despite m ore segments on QR to earn!). I will need to book a night in Dubai though for my connecting flights to Baku although FlyDubai has three flights a day, so will aim for the midday flight!

So yeah the facebook messaging service has worked well for me, rather than wait on a phone line for someone to help.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
