Hi all,

I have a trip coming up that features the following legs:

  • QF J from MEL to SYD
  • AA J from SYD to LAX
  • AA J from LAX to SYD
  • QF J from SYD to MEL

I currently have zero status with both QFF and AAdvantage and zero Status Credits/EQMs in both programs.

My reading tells me that, due to the spend requirement of gaining elite status with AA I'd have a better outcome crediting these flights to QFF should I want to achieve any level of status. Does my thinking match what other members would do?

Thanks to all who reply.

Those flight alone will get you to Silver status with QF. One shortfall is that you'll earn fewer QF points on the AA flights due to the fall of QF/AA JV.

AA status earning is base on revenue and to attain AA Gold (OW Ruby), you'll need $3K EQD and 25K EQM. How often do you travel to the States?

I was going to ask what the flight numbers were, then remembered that currently AA and QF no longer codeshare SYD/LAX.

AA Platinum challenge for me ...

Are you interested in trying to get status or getting award miles??

AA challenge might be an option to fast track status, if you want award miles for another redemption then Alaska Airlines might be the go...

If in the lowest Business fare bucket SYD-LAX alone will earn a little under 15K EQM; you'd be AA Platinum before you return.

AA J to LAX from SYD will only earn half the SC QF does from the 1st of May.

Those cheaper AA fares come at a cost.

The responses are greatly indicative of how awesome a community AFF is - thank you all!

I'm flying out on 16/March and back on 20/March. My fiddling with the QFF SC + points calculator indicates that I'll avoid the rapacious reduction afforded QFF members in an attempt to support QF's assertions to various regulatory bodies.

AA have a spend criteria associated with status at present by my reading. Of course, I'm happy to be told I'm wrong and credit the whole trip to AAdvantage (or the AA legs to AAdvantage and the QF legs to QFF).

My current status holdings only feature VA Platinum. I've approximately 400K points with QFF and 750K points with VA - I've not seen evidence of successful status challenges and/or matches between VA and AA.

Happy to be told otherwise of course!
