Playing around with QF rewards for a flight between Perth and NY and I never see a QF flight.

There always seems to be availability with EK, CX and Qatar....

Does anyone have insight into how QF reimburse the other airlines for rewards seats?

Logically surely it would be cheaper to release more QF reward seats?

Or is J and F across the pacific fully booked on QF

Unless you make it a lifestyle, finding such awards can be difficult.

Start looking for QF award flights transpacific by searching single segment flights between MEL/SYD/BNE & LAX/SFO.

Generally you'll find something if you are flexible with dates.

Then check the +++ and freak out.

Now look for awards on AA flights to /from SYD/AKL (with QF connection on the latter) ... the +++ may be more reasonable.

Although its better than it used to be, for as long as I've been in the game Trans-Pac on Qantas has been one of the most difficult to get award seats on, even just MEL/SYD-LAX, let alone added PER and NY. QF will fly with empty F seats unless there is a need to bump some-one for J to accommodate over-booked whY.

Is it correct that most of the QF J/F awards are blocked out for Bronze members, and only accessible to say Gold/Plat/P1/CL members? I have been looking at SYD-HND at first day available and I cannot see anything ....

Availability shows up for high status travellers first then lower status travellers may see seats at a later date if still available. There is a long running thread on that.

Take a look at this thread http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ustralia-south-america-80340.html#post1571528

I've just booked a mixture of 4 x J/F awards seats to DFW and back from JFK. Sure I've got status but the seats are there ... If I had no status - I'd call QFF.

If you're a follower of this forum you'll probably realise grabbing premium trans-pac flights require skill, tenacity and probably status.

Be flexible and call Qantas and always be super nice to the agent - they are your new BFF and I find they want to see you get what you want and enjoy helping. But not agents are created equal. If you have someone who is about to end shift and wants out (you can always tell) politely say you have to go and call back in an hour.

Once you have your outbound booked, it seems easier to get the return when the seats are released weeks later.

Good luck

Award Nexus is a good place to find award seats.

of go via AKL or NAN , me I go via HKG heaps of award seats direct o numerous US cities. Also done circle pacific using award points, CNS/HKG/JFK/lAX BNE/CNS, to beat the huge Qantas fees have commenced flights out of HK (via low cost daylight positing flight).

Thanks for the comments so far, not really concerned about getting the seats as there is always availability on other Qantas aligned carriers.

All my rewards have been on non QF flights, so thought I should try QF F service, but looks like this is a unreal expectation, unless I jag a reward or buy a seat.
