Quick question, I did the 5 day trial of EF, even ended up paying for the first month to give it a spin for an upcoming trip to Europe/US as I'm only allowed whY+ and I'm really counting on points upgrades to J.

So, now my question is, can you actually use EF to see Upgrade Class availability on international QF flights? Because as far as I can tell, U - Business Upgrade for instance is only visible on domestic flights.

So do I just have to look at the J/C/D loadings and hope that a high number here means a better chance of an upgrade? Or do the U class loadings show up closer to the departure date (flights are on the 10th and 23rd of September)?

Did you search in the awards and upgrades section? That's where you will find it. However they will only up if there is seats..

Yeah I did, and it kept coming up with no results. I wasn't sure if I was doing something wrong or if it just means that there aren't any seats in that class. I guess I'll try again as it gets closer to the flights. I'm really hoping for an upgrade on the DFW-BNE QF-late flight, I've got seat 29E, a middle seat and the cabin is completely full. Sixteen hours wedged between to people I don't know in seats only slighty larger than whY does not make me a happy camper :(

On a general availability search, they'll show up for international flights when there is availability; but generally not without specifying QF only.

e.g.

If there is U2, then you may see ... J9 C9 D9 I9 U2 Y9 B9 ...

If there is U0 then you may see ... J9 C9 D9 I9 Y9 B9 ...

P is first, Z is PE and X is economy.

Ok thanks, yes I specified QF only.

This is what I'm seeing for all 3 of my flights (that is no U). Hope that changes ...

In case someone wants to check that I'm not doing it wrong, the flights are QF51 BNE-SIN 10 Sep, QF9 SIN-LHR 10 Sep and QF8 DFW-BNE 23 Sep.

Hardly need to check - those dates revolve around the spring OZ school Holidays.

(Such times are Christmas, Easter, June, April and, of course, September)

One month out and very little chance I'd suggest.

Actually, many a WP booked in Economy has found themselves op-upped during these times - it's "upgrade season".

Err, 29E is a skybed.

Nope, it's PE. It's funny but the cabin layout I got when it came to seat selection doesn't match any of the published configurations on either QF.com or seatguru. So I figured they must have reconfigured the cabin and not updated their seat maps?? Never flown DFW-BNE direct before this is a first for me.

Seat selection has gone all cough on me again, so I can't actually get a screen shot, but from memory, the only listed PE seats were rows 29 to 34.

edit: hang on, is this one of those cases where the cabin is still configured for F/J/Y+/Y but only sells J/Y+/Y, so there are some lucky people in Y+ that get J seats? Like me maybe? If so, wonder if I should cancel my upgrade request and just enjoy the "free" J seat?

Don't forget you can set up flight alerts in EF, which will notify you by e-mail when an upgrade/award fare bucket becomes available i.e if U, P, X, or Z suddenly appears.

I've used this primarily for domestic upgrades - U sometimes appears 4-5 days prior to flight when none was previously available. E-mail arrives and quickly snaffle upgrade.

Yes.

The first two rows in the "PE" cabin (29/30) are skybeds. These have a 2-3-2 config.

The second two rows (34/35) are regular PE seats.

I've checked your date and it does have this config. I would personally cancel the upgrade request.

Enjoy :)

Thanks, and done :)

J food over whY+ food isn't worth 45K points, when you can get the bed for free :D
