Haven't seen this reported anywhere, but it looks like Qantas are increasing MEL-CNS flights on Sat/Sun to two flights per day from Sat 6 Jun until Sun 11 Oct
Schedules as follows;
QF704 MEL 1220 CNS 1545
QF705 CNS 1630 MEL 1950

That return flight is perfect timing for the end of a holiday!

Being SYD based I am a huge fan of QF927 at the end of a CNS trip, so glad to see MEL is getting a similar flight on Saturdays and Sundays.

Now, here's hoping QF may use some surplus 332 to upgrade some of the weekend flights to CNS in peak season (I loved the morning 767 out of Sydney, perfect way to start a holiday!).

Of course it ends a week before we fly, that later flight out of CNS would be perfect.

We might start seeing more of this with the dollar falling and the economy weakening.

MEL - CNS on a 737 in all except J, ouch!
Esp if fully sardine class in Y.
At least via SYD, there is the chance to stretch legs, used to have a 767 on the SYD - CNS too, some days a week, but that would not have been replaced by a 330. Haven't checked schedule indepth.
If yes, I still go via SYD.
If no, I would still most likely go via SYD.

Its only a 200.mile difference? 25 mins at most flight time difference from cns to syd or mel....

If you want to leave later than noon then via syd is pretty much your only option.

5 SCs wasn't worth the extra 3 hours in this case.

They area always worth something but for three hours I agree with you.

FWIW, I'm traveling to/from CNS in October on VA as the BNE connections work well ... plus being flexi (yes I have upgraded) it's 10 more each way ... :)

Our attendance was contingent on a sale and QF just has one at the right time.

QF did indeed have 330's during peak demand times (ie: winter) on CNS-SYD. Now all 738 that I know of, though I can imagine the odd 332 being thrown on there per demand. From MEL now going MEL-SYD-CNS or MEL-BNE-CNS is pretty similar, though I would note the longer SYD-CNS rates as a midcon type flight and gets slightly more catering in J (not sure about Y). I'm doing this myself in June. During J sales, the difference bwteen MEL-CNS n/s and via BNE or SYD can just be a few $$$ so obviously extra SC's are valuable, but that's just me - more time than sense :)

The afternoon flight/return is very appealing though if such considerations are not involved. Definitely at 4pm-ish out of CNS is very friendly.

Now, we all know I have a love for the wide planes, yeair, time wise it might not make a difference that much, but still, either a time to walk half way through the trip down on earth is a nice thing, or being able to at least amble around the tinside of the 330/767 to stretch the legs would have been a nice thing... before QF did the take off of the 767, I had considered doing a MR ADL - SYD - CNS with QF, and back.
**Now not even JQ does that domestic passenger on an international flight from SYD to CNS anymore it seems.**
