I think you might mean doesn't earn as many SC possibly. AA flights should earn points and SC (but maybe not very many.....)

Hi AFFers

I'm going to the US next year and will be flying pretty much across the country.
Is is possible to book AA flights with QF flight numbers on US domestic flights? If so, how?
The point of this is to earn SCs and points. Flying an AA flight no. doesn't earn SCs.

TIA

No, you can not book standalone flights with QF code in the US. QF is not allowed to sell their code on AA, AS or WS operated flights in North America without a long haul flight on the same ticket. QF prefers such flights to be QF coded flights to/from Australia.
I have a RTW trip starting next month. Every single sector in the US on that ticket that has a QF codeshare available is booked under the QF code, but that's only allowable because it is a RTW ticket and I have QF1 and QF2 (LHR-DXB-LHR) on the same ticket.
I have a side trip in the US, not on the same ticket as the RTW (but connects to it), LAX-SFO-LAX, which has QF codes, but I couldn't book them.
In order to use the QF codeshares in North America, you need to use the multi city booking option on the QF website or book through a travel agent (or call QF) and book everything at the same time.

AA codes do earn QF points and SC (provided they are booked in an earning fare class). All oneworld flights will earn QF SCs provided they are in an eligible fare hucket. They just don't earn as many SC and points as using a QF code would, thanks to the earn changes made in 2015.
AS and WS flights won't earn QF SC, but will earn points, as they are not part of oneworld, although are QFF partners.

Agreeing with the above replies. I've had numerous AA domestic flights (all F/J), and none with QF codes, and all of them have earned QF SC's.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

"provided they are booked in an earning fare class"

Which seems like a redundant statement - "You can earn QF SCs on your flight provided the flight you've booked is eligible to earn QF SCs." :p

All oneworld flights will earn QF SCs provided they are in an eligible fare hucket.

Typo :p

Interesting, the new forum doesn't appear to mark a post as edited even after being quoted (seem to recall the old forum did that).

If you have a flight continuing on as a connection from LAX/DFW (or connecting to the return flight), it is likely that a QF codeshare could be available. As stated above, flights not connecting to/from the QF long haul flights would be unlikely to be available under QF codes.

So it really depends on where you are going and where your return flights commence. A trial run on the QF website would be useful. And remember that the AA site in the USA may return different options and prices than the one pointed to Australian customers.

Happy wandering

Does this only apply to AA flights in the US or other continents as well? e.g. if I have a flight from Europe say with BA to connect to a QF flight to Oz out of LHR, can I get the BA flight under a QF code?

It applies anywhere QF (or any other non local airline) does not have the needed traffic rights to sell a given flight.

for example, with the late March changes to QF1/2 and the move back to SIN. EK does not have traffic rights for SIN-LHR, so can't sell the EK codeshare for SYD-LHR or SIN-LHR, but EK does have traffic rights for SYD-SIN, so that sector of QF1/2 can have an EK code.

You can't buy the QF codes on BA such as MAN-LHR or BUD-LHR as standalone, but you can if they connect outside Europe.
You can book QF3503 (BA865 BUD-LHR) and connect to QF8002 (EK2 LHR-DXB).

In general, you'll only be able to book a codeshare as a standalone flight where the marketing carrier would have operational rights on that route.
