QF First Lounge access when flying JQ

Hi, I was just wondering whether Non-QF Oneworld Emerald members can access the Qantas First lounge when flying on JQ metal (and JQ flight number)?

The Qantas website seems pretty clear that OW Emerald members can only access the lounge when travelling on a Oneworld flight, however I have heard that Qantas tends to grant entry to those flying JQ too.

I called both the Sydney and Melbourne International business lounges today to ask this question:

Sydney informed me that as a BA Exec Club Gold I cannot access any lounge if travelling on JQ. Melbourne on the other hand told me I'm fine to use the First lounge, even after repeating that my Emerald status is not with QFF.

Has anyone here had any experience with accessing the lounge in a similar situation?

Also is anyone here aware of an 'unwritten benefit' that allows WPs to have anytime access to BA business lounges and reciprocal rights for BA Golds to access the Qantas Club anytime? I read about this on FT but the thread is over 3 years old and realise a lot can change in this time.

Went to the MEL F lounge this morning with a WP, travelling JQ (just to SYD even). No problems at all.

As you said, I don't think other OWEs would have any problems either. Just show them the rules.

As a Qantas Platinum I have access to QF domestic lounges anytime even when not flying. I don't think this benefit is extended to other Oneworld Emeralds.

As a Qantas Platinum I can access any Oneworld International business lounge as long as my next flight is a Oneworld flight.

Also as a Qantas Platinum I can access any joint QF/BA Internationa business lounge when not flying on a Onewoirld airline. For argument sakes I cannot access the BA Business lounge in IAD Washington DC if flying with UA but I can access the QF/BA business lounge in SIN if flying on SQ.

Both state have to be travelling Oneworld airline to gain access to Oneworld lounges. What QF staff do in some circumstances is totally irrellevant and is an unpublished benefit. Although it never hurts to ask.

As JohnK mentions, per the rules, you have no right as a OWE to access the QF F lounge when flying JQ. Likewise you have no access as a OWE to access the QP when flying JQ, however lately it seems access has been granted, but it should be judged as the exception to the rule, as if it doesn’t happen, there’s nothing you can say to change it.

If you were flying BA, surely you’d have every right to access their lounge as they’re a full OW member and you’re a OWE. Something to take up with them perhaps.

Did you try the Iberia Premier Club?

JQ on the other hand isn’t even an affiliate member of OW. Thus there are no rules about access.

No Need to apologise. We all make mistakes occasionally.

Lounge access rules are not always easy to interpret and we all have different experiences.
