Hello hello, long time no chat, thanks to all who have put my mind at ease in the past with varying questions and what not. Greatly appreciated.

Ok on Thursday I'm off to Brisbane for 10 days to see the family and also go to the Bledisloe Cup Rugby Test.

Just a few queries - flying Qantas in economy - had some varying answers on the new refit with the in flight entertainment.

I flew to Auckland back in March and they had the iQ I think it was called - where there was a screen in the back of the headrest in front.

Now I'm flying on a Boeing 737 will it be that or the coughola entertainment from before? Only reason why I'm asking is the USB facility which will may my life a lot more easier with my iPad! (sounds sad, have a few assignments due and any time I have would be appreciated)

Cheers

As you are flying a 737, you are not able to get an answer until you are on board really.

The newer 737's have personal IFE, but the problem is that there is no difference between the seat layouts, so you can't tell if you are on the older layout without any IFE.

For that length of flight, is IFE that important?

Thank you for your help.

It may be a short flight, but even after years of flying on that route I still have a fear of flying so something to keep one distracted is a big big help.

Plus important University paper's don't type themselves.

That is a fair enough response. I don't think at this stage there is any way to find out.

Domestic aircraft change a couple of times a day so even if the aircraft you have for your flight has IFE, it will probably change

Is it a 737-400 or 737-800? If you're on a 734 then no chance of the seatback IFE but there is a (small) chance if on the 738. I have been lucky enough to get the iQ thing on my last three 738 flights, hopefully you get lucky too!

Only reason why I'm asking is the USB facility which will may my life a lot more easier with my iPad! (sounds sad, have a few assignments due and any time I have would be appreciated)

Cheers

If you have an iPad why do you need IFE?

Ipads (and tablets in general) are often a pain to juggle when one wan't to employ the tray table for other uses.
the OP stated he needed to 'type his important university papers'...so im also confused why he requires AVOD on a 1hr flight!!!

It normally takes me the full hour on a CBR - MEL 734 to manipulate the channel changing dial in the armrest to get it onto something I want to listen to (though after 10 trips in a month there is rarely anything I want to listen to twice)..
