I have a fight on Thursday SYD-MEL-ZQN. The MEL-ZQN leg is on Jetstar, and the SYD-MEL is on QF.

Will QF check through my bags to ZQN if I check in at the service desk in Syd (I'm QF WP, my wife is QF SG).

Thanks.

In a word, no. In fact as you land in MEL you'll be told that if you're connecting to a Jet* flight you need to collect your luggage and check it in again.

Happy travelling.

Bags should be automatically through checked to ZQN if both flights are on the same pnr as we're talking about a QFd flight to JQi not a JQd flight. Sometimes you will get the JQi boarding pass & sometimes you won't however that makes no difference to the bags being through checked to ZQN. If you don't get your JQi boarding pass in SYD, see the JQ Service Desk people in MEL prior to clearing customs.

Even if the flights are on separate pnrs this should still happen as plenty of AFF members here have reported they've had separate pnrs eg MEL QF SYD JQ HNL or BNE QF SYD JQ DPS and have had success.

IIRC the QF CSM's PA on arrival might actually say "if you're connecting to a Jetstar domestic flight you will need to collect your luggage then proceed to the Jetstar terminal".

Hmmm, I thought things might have changed given this: Flight Connections | Jetstar

It's an itinerary that I'd never ever book myself, but unfortunately as it is a work trip I had no say!

It used to be a yes, then a year or two back it changed to a "If the check-in person wanted to assist"

As said above there have been reports of having your bags tagged through, but it's not a guarantee of future success

My reading of that link is that they are saying they will NOT assist...

Thats what I would think as well, JQ will not interline baggage with anyone, and I would not be surprised if the checkin software has been modified to prevent QF ground staff from interlining a bag from QF onto a JQ flight. The question that I have, is that if the OP had booked the QF code share flight SYD-MEL "a-la" QF5000 and then checked in with QF at SYD, then presumably the bags would then be checked all the way through to ZQN without a problem?

I will let you know when I try on Thursday. What sort of moron books that itinerary is Beyond me.

The above link is from the JQ website & does not appear to address the QFd to JQi scenario.

I agree that some people may have had more difficulty convincing CSA's to through check from QFd to JQi when on separate pnrs as opposed to all flights being in the same booking.

IMHO you need to break that down to whether the scenario is JQd or JQi - you cannot say outright that JQ don't through check to anyone because that's not correct.

There is no through check offered for bags JQd (A320) flight eg BNE/SYD to another flight even if it's another JQd flight eg BNE/SYD/HBA - even if both flights are in the same booking.

Ditto for pax connecting from a JQd flight to a JQi flight eg BNE/SYD/HNL.

JQi have interline baggage agreements with a number of airlines & will through check to other flights eg MEL JQ BKK AY HEL.

To answer your question about a pax booked on a QF 5000 series flight. As it's JQ metal you would be checking in with JQ not QF. It doesn't matter if it's 'sold as QF5000' because the pax will be manifested in JQ's Navitaire System so QF cannot pax in via Altea.

Yes so as the scenario is not listed QF/JQ will not check the bags through

However, what I said before is my understanding in that they MAY do it

The link though says that JQi will transfer bags to and from interline partners, one of which is Qantas. That seems pretty clear to me that they will do it. Whether Qantas will remains to be seen.

<snip>

Maybe a prophetic slip of the keyboard, ;). Look forward to hearing how it goes.

Hope I was wrong but sadly I don't think so.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but we never really got a definative answer, I am taking some pax to TSV airport soon, they are booked one PNR on a QFlink TSV- CNS and then JQi CNS-KIX, what chance getting bags checked in at TSV all the way through?

Edit: sorry forgot to say one PNR on QF for the TSV-CNS Anx booked on QF flight number not JQ flight no. ( but on JQ metal CNS-KIX obviously).

Hopefully you OP will have time to transfer.
And yes, I do realise MEL airport is easiest one to transfer from d to i, from i to d, it's as always a pain in the bum.
With Australian passports (guess OP and wife are) entering NZ is easy with Smartgate, departing NZ is easy with Smartgate, departing Australia, no Smartgate, entering Australia, fingers crossed, with Smartgate, if you are lucky, you will be sent out and all you get is your incoming passenger card and Smartgate ticket taken from you.

Hi everyone

Sorry to dig up this old thread but does anybody have any experiences with this lately?

I've got a ticket from MEL-SIN on JQi but I had to separately get another ticket on QF between SYD-MEL. Will QF at SYD check my bags through (even if they can't print the boarding pass)?

Thanks for all the information guys!

Cheers.

QF no longer through check through to JQi flights if they are booked separately so you'd need to collect your bag in MEL ex the QF flight then proceed next door to the international terminal and check in again with JQi.

The only times QF through check to other carriers if when they're One World members or EK.
