QF/AA JV Reapply, Cuts Codeshares, ½'s SC earn on many flights

mentioned loss of codeshare status credits ...
Not lost .. Just reduced since you won't be able to book a QF flight number on AA metal:
... It will mean people will not get the same status credits as they got on American Airlines aircraft, because we don't do that with any other carrier on routes without a joint venture," Mr Joyce said. ...

Up until 'Simpler and Fairer' was introduced, SC earn was effectively carrier neutral as long as you flew on a OW airline.

It could be again if QF wanted to. I would like to see the US government call their bluff on this one.

Qantas to scrap American Airlines code-sharing and loyalty points deal

"Qantas will scrap a code-sharing and loyalty points deal with American Airlines, in a move that will hurt customers but the carrier says is necessary to convince United States authorities to approve a formal tie-up between the two companies. The Flying Kangaroo confirmed on Saturday it would re-apply to the US Department of Transportation for immunity from anti-competition laws so it can launch a lucrative but as-yet elusive joint venture with American."

Smart move building the hangar, additional revenue source!

As for the JV, I can see what they're trying to do, but will be a shame if the US calls their bluff. I can see why the deal wouldn't be likely with 60% share, but at the same time when your competitors in the region both have JV's for exactly the same thing it does seem just a tad unfair. If you have got to where you are by being successful, that should be rewarded, not penalised.

Re: Qantas dumps AA partnership

dummy spit much?

Most pax are not aware that when a 'partnership' is approved, what happens in the background is there is greater revenue sharing between the airlines.
Fundamentally meaning QF and AA don't give a **** who you fly - because they both receive a % of the revenue from the overall capacity.

It's essentially legalised collusion and government protection from anti-competition laws.

Re: Qantas dumps AA partnership

So QF have decided to go for the nuclear option. The US government must be quaking in its boots.

The dropping of a single return codeshare service per day. Wow. Serious stuff. Announced 'prime time' on Saturday morning as well.

Re: Qantas dumps AA partnership

Don't we already get the lower SC earn on AA coded flights? This seems like the point status bonus on AA flights is going.

The QF release suggests that only AA codes on QF11/12 and QF codes on AA72/73 are being dropped, while codesharing domestically on each end and on QF3/4/7/8/15/16/73/74/93/94/95/96 and AA82/83 remain.

...
It not much really.

The main losers are those who would book QF*AA to get QFF earn for QF marketed rather than AA marketed, while getting any benifit from traveling on AA metal. e.g. The current AA transpacific J product is generally considered better than QF's Skybed.

I booked a QF coded ticket on AA metal a few weeks ago for June 2017. Will I still earn SC / points at the QAN rate?

Re: Qantas ditches American Airlines deal in joint venture manoeuvre

I think what we might see is the partner SC earn rate on flights to USA being halved, similar to how it works when flying another OW carrier on a routing that is also offered by QF. Currently, the SC earn for most fare categories to the US is the same whether you fly under a QF or AA code. The exception to this are the flexible categories on QF coded flights, which earn higher than the partner equivalent rate.

Re: Qantas ditches American Airlines deal in joint venture manoeuvre

Interesting approach, shaft your flyers to get one up on the government.

Adding to a host of reasons why travel to the US not looking attractive currently....

Oh, that's a kick in a teeth. I was hoping to do a Mid-June AA run. If I understand the PR correctly, the rates will drop after 1 May 2017. Boo.
