Has anyone travelled on QF 127 and/or QF128 over this summer period where these flights are operated by an A380? Have you sat in rows 1 to 5, i.e. the F cabin being utilised as J?

Myself and Mrs 340 have a QF 127 this week and I've placed us in rows 2 and 3. Has there been any examples where QF has moved people 'back upstairs' in the case of a light loading in the F cabin? Currently my flight has 5/14 seats occupied downstairs. The upstairs J cabin has a high occupancy and I'm getting paranoid that we could be moved into the last row of J, which is pretty much the last seating available up there.

I travelled this route last week (HKG-SYD), and was a little concerned about this also, especially after the 25th and 26th Dec flights were substituted for a 747 just a few days before. Up to a week before, I was the only one booked in this cabin, and it slowly filled. Expert Flyer was showing J9 C9 D9 I0 right up until about an hour before departure, then zeroed out. Turns out the cabin was filled with QF staff. The flight was fantastic in the F cabin, although I was a little disappointed that the meal service (only supper - so 1 plate plus dessert) took over 3 hours to complete.

Sounds like your flight had a lighter load in J than mine so that's good news. I'm hoping for a few staff travellers, which may make the load controllers look favourably on keeping the F cabin open. Fingers crossed.

Three hours for a supper service on an overnight flight? That is agonising.

Just landed from QF128, originally selected 3A but the seat was faulty so I was moved to 5A in the last minute. Very lucky as it was the only vacant seat left in First Class!
Supper service took about 90 minuets, not too bad. Maybe because I was served first, possibly the only advantage of seat 5A ;)

Travelled on QF127 in late December and there was only one seat allocated in the F cabin when I moved us down there. On the day the cabin was full, several of the occupants knew each other and the flight crew so I assume they were Qantas staff.

Nice to travel in the F cabin on a points upgrade to business. The cabin crew were excellent, one of the best we have had, they even gave us a nice bottle of red at the end of the flight.

Heading home on QF128 today but on the 747.

Always good when you walk away with some of the product ;)

I chose my flights dates to get the A380 to and from HKG.

I also specifically chose the dates to get the A380 (and the F cabin!), but had the substitution to a 747 at t-72hrs. Speaking to the crew, they had arrived from Bangkok the day before, and only found out then that they were heading out to HKG on Christmas day, then returning boxing they (they were on a standby roster). I assume that this was the same for the flight crew, although there was obviously some very lucky A380 pilots who all of a sudden found themselves with Christmas off!

Travelled SYD-HKG return in economy on A380 this past week with upgrade to business both ways.

Both upgrades came through and sat in 5A both flights. First cabin full each time. Outbound flight very full but I believe inbound flight not so full although I didn't check thoroughly.

Greeting on inbound flight included mention that this was a First class seat with business class only service for our loyal Platinum frequent flyers. I heard the same for lady in front of me.

We got the same greeting. F cabin was full on both flights too (in fact I believe there was not a spare seat to be had on the 128).

The new Emerald City. :)

The Christmas/Chinese New Year upgrade of QF127/128 to an A380 is on again this year and I am currently booked in J on QF128 on an AA award. Is there any chance of selecting F seats as a OWE? No Qantas status alas. J Cabin are wide open for me to choose from (inc. rows 11-13) but F seats are blocked. No worries if selecting these is exclusively a CL/WP1/WP benefit, but will they open up to the rest of us at T80 or T24 if any are still available?

Bugger! Flying from HKG during this time, thought I'll be on QF128 but it's QF30, oh well as least it's the reburb A330.
I had the benefit of the F seats on A380 last year on QF127. Had prebooked 2A when it was showing A330 and the seat number stuck even with change of aircraft.

My wife & I are on QF127 in J on 20/1/16 , I checked on QF site & seat guru & says its still a 747 ??

have they updated it? Late June it was still the old version - TBH I haven't followed the "refurb 330" thread closely. On the other hand QF 97 (BNE-HKG) was a refurb in June already. Was the same price for MEL-BNE-HKG as flying direct ex-MEL, but with the extra SC for the domestic leg :)

I fear you've missed out by a day; AusBT says:
from 21 January to 16 February 2016 the A380 will run daily to Hong Kong route to help handle the Chinese New Year surge centred around February 8, with the Boeing 747 returning to the schedule from February 17.

Thanks for the info , just my luck I suppose , still looking forward to our 747 as we are upstairs & have never been there before .

I didn't see it mentioned in other threads, but QF will be upgrading SYD-HKG (QF127/128) to an A380 for most of April 2017. I have 2 flights to HKG booked in PE during that month so a nice chance to sit in the F cabin for a 25K points upgrade from PE!

Unless you're P1, by the time the PE to J upgrade comes through, chances are, most of the F seats would've been taken. Having said that, you could be lucky. I was on one of those flights last year. Preselected 1A and QF changed a/c to A380 and retained my seat. Was surprised to find some empty seats in F despite the J upstairs being quite full.
