Hi All

Forgive any errors - my first post!

The family & I are currently looking at doing a run to LHR with QF in First for some business early next year. We're living in QLD and usually will go out of BNE to SYD then LHR but usually go J and not first.

We're wanting to take advantage of the first benefits - to anyone who's transited through SYD from BNE or MEL domestic, do they have First Hosts (not first hosts but anything similar offering the same service) for domestic connections when arriving at the airports in BNE or MEL - and do they have a fast-tracked or better service offering in transit in SYD if you're flying in First onto QF1 from a domestic connection? Or is it just the usual being left to your own devices to get to gate 15?

Would really appreciate any advice or experiences!

Left to your own devices.

They won’t even notice you until you’re in your seat ... you may get offered a spa but you will have to wait for a seat at a table in the First Lounge if its already full of Y JQ pax.

Only half-joking:p

Welcome to AFF. I only did transit from Hobart to First out of Sydney once, and there was nothing re First until I reached the lounge.

Starting an ex-SYD F journey from a domestic leg is a pretty non-premium experience. Even starting in MEL - where they have (had?) a dedicated First Check-In reception ,it's only for ex-MEL F - and you check-in at the domestic International Transfer desks where there is zero recognition of COS/status
Join the queue at SYD Gate 15, may or may not get on the first bus - depending on timing/connecting flights - another 20mins of FLounge time gone.

If there is no savings $$-wise transiting via SYD on QF compared with on QF codeshare ex BNE on EK - it'd be a no brainer for me. Especially if you can ensure ample stopover time in DXB to sample their brilliant A-Concourse F Lounge.

Regards,

BD

Good luck. Some have reported they exist but personally we have never seen any either here or in LHR. Have not experienced any special privileges on BNE SYD flight (J). You can and should call in advance and book spar etc if you want and ask for F Host. Get an earlier flight out of BNE than what’s normally offered so you can spend a less stressful comfortable time in the F lounge in SYD Is my suggestion.

If you have the option, EK F out of BNE is much easier and a better experience (better food and wines, and a door), no QF F lounge tho, which is an experience.

Pretty much like J bar the lounge obviously.

Apparently one can request a F host for "assistance" but I've never done it myself and don't feel it is really something that adds much benefit, but that's just me.

I also agree with the others that it may be a bit premature to assume there will be F service offered (ie: A380) on QF at all. Probaby be a F lounge but hosts? hmmmm.

good luck (and welcome to AFF!)

If you really want to fly QF and take full advantage of the service at SYD then I would go down the night before and stay in a hotel.

Are you paying or is this an award?
The BNE direct to SIN, then DXB then LHR might be a bit better.
I have done the SYD QF F, not bad, it was only a breakfast, but I had an overnight transit, ADL - SYD the night before, then the F from SYD - CHC, before anyone bites me, it was an EK metal QF flight number flight.
What is your status, if its an award, and if international flights have opened up, if you are QF NB/QF PS/QF SG, your chances of snagging award seats are harder, than if you were higher up the status pecking order.
I paid for the ADL - SYD - CHC, not an award, so in my case, it didn't make a difference, but if yours is an award plan for the flight, Dec/Jan is school holidays, and award seats are harder to get your hands on.
The QF F lounge is SYD can be a fair walk, up the escalators, even the EK lounge does not have lounge to plane access.
If you live in BNE, that is the airport to fly to LHR from, as there is the direct EK lounge to plane, no need to mix with the plebs!
Unless you have a lot of time in SYD, I would not play with the transit from T3 dom gate at gate 15 at the QF bus transfer point to the int terminal, it takes at least half and hour or more, and you do have to mix with the plebs, they fill the bus up to the tilt.
If you do really want to see the QF F lounge in SYD, fly later on, in this manner, BNE - SYD overnight, stay at the Rydges, then do EK F with a QF flight number, not available at the moment, but should be back later on, (paws crossed), first thing to try is their breakfast in the QF F lounge, then on board the EK plane.
Bypass the SYD experience for the time being.
Believe you me, BNE int is not a hard airport to use, smallish, quaint even, you won't get lost trying to run for the SYD transfer bus!
First job for you is to look at the QF website, and see if you can find award/(reward) seats.
Best of luck.
Sorry for the waffle.
SYD QF J is not bad, some don't like it.
BNE QF F/J joint lounge, not bad either.

Didnt EK say they were canning the BNE - SIN flights.?

Yes, it is gone but DXB-BNE v.v. is def ramping up:

Dubai – Brisbane eff 02JUL20 1 weekly 777-300ER (3 weekly from 01AUG20, 1 daily from 31AUG20. 2nd daily with A380 to resume on 25OCT20)

EK will have tags from SIN to MEL and PEnang.

but not really relevant to the OP's questions.

and noting prior to QF1 the F lounge, assuming near normal offerings (unlikely, but never know) will have the all day menu so comments about breakfast etc aren't terribly relevant.

Also no SYD lounge has direct lounge to aircraft access so that is not very relevant either imo. Only DXB has that at the A gates.. again not terribly relevant if the OP wishes to fly QF F from SYD.

imo.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Agree, thats how we did it. Call from the F host to see when we would be arriving, met at check in, then escorted to departures.

We happened to go the day the immigration systems were down, so queues were horrendous and they helped up bypass those, plus changed our spa appointments so we wouldnt miss them.

Also a nice sleep in at (for example) Rydges and a relaxed time to check in, go to the lounge, have massage etc.

And not having to worry about a delayed or cancelled connection from BNE to SYD.

I would go the night before too to max the experience for sure.
