Hi all,

I wanted to confirm something with you to make me feel a little better...

I'm on a BA flight from LAX-LHR tonight, and I have a QC membership. I walked into the oneworld lounge, showed my card and my boarding pass, and the lady at the door said I wasn't allowed in, that I had to be travelling on a Qantas flight for my QC membership to work.

Now -- my reading of Fly - The Qantas Club - Lounge Access says I can get it, and I was quite sure it would be the case.

Luckily she was nice enough to let me in regardless (good food in here tonight!), but I thought I was right and wanted to get it confirmed by the experts.

Perhaps I should print out that Qantas page and keep it with me for the future, just in case the next person isn't as nice?

Thanks!

L.

OK, this was the TBIT lounge.

Interesting you would gain admittance on a Qantas flight with your QP membership.

That implies this lounge is treated as a Qantas lounge for the purposes of QP admittance. WHich agrees with this:

Fly - The Qantas Club - Lounge Locations - North America

Of course you had rights to enter, as per the page you linked:

Qantas Club -->
International Business Lounge -->
Member and 1 guest can access lounge on day of departure.+
+next onward flight that day must be on a Qantas, British Airways or Jetstar flight number.

Since it is not a Qantas Club nor a BA lounge it would seem that the agent is quite correct in that access would not be permitted prior to a BA flight

It would seem that Qantas specifically provide for lounge access for their members before QF flights regardless

By the Terms and Conditions, if not a Qantas Club/Ba Lounge , I wouldn't agree that there would be entitlement to enter but in this case an exception was granted

If it is a generic lounge it would seem to me that the TBIT is from the description

You will be welcome at associated lounges in most international ports that Qantas flies to but where it does not operate its own lounge or partner airline lounge. Our associated lounges are operated by, or on behalf of, other airlines.^^ Present your Qantas Club, Platinum or Gold Frequent Flyer card at check-in and again with your boarding pass at the lounge reception. You may also invite one guest. Again, both you and your guest need to be travelling together further that day on a Qantas marketed flight.++ If you are taking a domestic flight, your guest does not need to be travelling. ##

hrm... interesting... I guess it's whether it's a Qantas/BA/Cathay lounge, or a "oneworld" lounge.

I interpreted it as the former, but I guess it can go either way (probably the latter though!).

Oh well, lucky me then :)

Actually, the link I posted specifically defines the TBIT lounge as a "Qantas Lounge". (it also defines the lounges at HNL and LAX T4 under the same banner.)

In which case access without reservation should have been given to the OP.

If further proof is required, then see this page: Fly - The Qantas Club - New Los Angeles Lounges Open

New Los Angeles Lounges Open

New First and Business lounges have opened at the Los Angeles Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT).

To access the Qantas lounge, you need to show your Qantas Club card, or your Platinum or Gold Qantas Frequent Flyer card, together with your boarding pass for onward travel on that day with a Qantas or British Airways flight number. ...

Hope the air conditioners were working. Last time I went, they broke and all PAX were sweating. 25 min queue for showers! :D

I'd call it a QP given the colour scheme used... That said your QP card should get you in as it's also a BA lounge, and QP gives you access to BA lounges on BA operated flights...

I would have asked "where is the BA lounge in that case" if I was challanged like that...

MMmm, interesting.
QP members can enter AA A/C and BA Terraces when flying AA/BA, but not the QP TBIT according to this (or that particular lounge dragon).
Doesn't sound quite right to me.

O/T recent experience T4 to TBIT on QF Shuttle - 1 bus every 30mins.
Lots of AA offloaders to QF connections, bus rocks up, suprise suprise it fills up in no time. What were we told. Wait for the next bus. 30 mins later, same experience. That's 50 minutes of waiting for the privilige of not having to go through security at TBIT:mad:.
Plus you could hardly breathe in the QP/OW Lounge, but what do you expect with 6 Departures of FULL flights including 2x A380.
Next time i'll take my chance and walk the 5 minutes.

Alright, I'm convinced now that I was in the right. I reckon the girl was just new and didn't know what she was doing. If she'd have not let me in I would have argued anyway, but there you go.

And yeah, the lounge is tiny. I was expecting better, but what can you do. I'm in the BA T5 Galleries lounge now and it's incredible. Easily the best lounge I've been to (though there haven't been too many international ones thus far).

Thanks for your help, guys!

The Bus departs on the hour and ½ hour from 4pm.

I have missed the bus before by "that much" - I simply headed back to the T4 A/C facility for another bevvy. (it's abut 90 seconds from the AC/FL to the Gate 44 bus "stop");)

Alas, what an idiot I am complaining. This thought did not even cross my mind...
