For those who took advantage of the QATAR companion sale earlier this year, like me, this may be good news.

They have quietly extended the stopover scheme until the end of the year.-
"Qatar Airways transit passengers have the opportunity to explore Qatar with our range of stopover options including a free hotel stay or two-night stay offers for bookings until 28 December 2018 and travel up to 31 December 2018."

If you are eligible, and I think I am, you can get a 2 night stopover in a 5 Star hotel e.g Marriott Marquis, Intercontinental Doha etc for US $50 per room.

Stopover deal has been extended again - for 1 month so far.

"Qatar Airways transit passengers have the opportunity to explore Qatar with our range of stopover options including a free hotel stay or two-night stay offers for bookings until 31 January 2019 and travel up to 30 April 2019"

I don't suppose this applies if I'm flying QR MIA-DOH-SYD as part of an around the world points ticket booked through CX does it? I'm assuming it's cash tix only?

Thanks

From memory I believe that your ticket has to have the QR Prefix of '157' for you to access to the deal. The QR website says:

"1. Book your Qatar Airways ticket with a transit in Doha"& "To avail the +Qatar offer when you book your ticket through qatarairways.com"

Plus, on the FlyerTalk forum they claim the rules include :

Confirmed by QR:
Offer valid for Qatar Airways confirmed ticket holders only.
Offer is available on Qatar Airways flights transiting through Doha during on-ward or return journey. (E.g.
London –Doha – Bangkok).
A minimum transiting time of 12 hours is required to be eligible for this offer.
Not applicable on codeshare flights.

and (ignore the dates)

We finally have the terms and conditions of this as follows.

Terms and conditions
Booking validity: 1 May to 31 August 2017.
Travel validity: 7 May to 30 September 2017. All travel must be completed by 30 September 2017.
Offer is valid for flights booked with Qatar Airways on qatarairways.com with Multi-city ticket booking.
Offer valid for Qatar Airways confirmed ticket holders only.
Qatar Airways E-ticket number is required to be entered at the payment page. Maximum of one booking is allowed per E-ticket number.
Offer is available on Qatar Airways flights transiting through Doha during onward or return journey. (E.g. London – Doha – Bangkok).
A minimum transiting time of 12 hours is required to be eligible for this offer.
Not applicable on codeshare flights.

I don't think you will be able to use it but you could ask the question of QR

EDIT: Here is a link to the original press release. It takes a while to load.

Thanks - I ended up putting the question to QR, I did find the 157 reference after I posted this. I suspect you're right, I'm out of luck unfortunately :(

Thanks for taking the time to post.

I gather from FlyerTalk that hotels in Doha are relatively cheap at the moment anyway - except for the Airport transit one of course:(.

That's okay, we're planning to be there about 36hrs, so all good. Any recommendations - have you been before?

We were there for about the same amount of time earlier this year. See the last 2 pages of my trip report - A Plane to Spain

We stopped at the Marriott Marquis City Center Doha Hotel which was a very good hotel with excellent staff. We used the QR offer so it was only US$100 for the 2 nights. It was in a bit of a "dead" spot among commercial buildings etc so a fair walk or cab ride to get anywhere. Many people seem to suggest stopping near the Souk. This is near the Museum of Islamic Art which is really a must see - and free!

P.S. remember to declare any alcohol on arrival - all bags are X-rayed With my one bottle of wine they held it in storage and I got it back on the way out. But, it would be simpler not to carry any.

Thanks for the link to the report - I had a read, and thanks for the recommendation on the museum, we'll be sure to check it out. I guess if the blockade is still in force I can put my hotel status to work and see what I can get for pricing and upgrades. I'll only be Accor gold by then, but that or Marriott gold should fare me well. Thanks for the tip on the booze, I wouldn't have even thought...

Looking forward to it now!
Cheers
Chris
