Hello,

I'm a newbie to this forum.

Does anyone collect Qantas and Velocity points at the same time?

I have been collecting velocity points via signing up credit cards but i'm at a point where I've signed up to everything. I'm thinking of signing up to Qantas to collect points quicker. I'm thinking of flying Melb to Paris using Velocity points and Paris to Melb using Qantas.

Is it hard to find first class availability on qantas saver? ( two adults and one 3 year old )

I would love to hear other experiences.

Thank you

Nothing wrong with collecting both. You won't find Qantas business class availability from Paris to Melbourne but you can fly with Emirates and/or oneworld partner airlines using Qantas points.

I collect both happily ... and spend both ... happily ... Although its harder to find QF redemptions and avoid fuel surcharges at the same time.

I fly both, collect both.

I use whichever works out best at the time.

I'd think quite a few people here collect both??

I'm pretty locked into Velocity thanks to my former corporate travel policies, but I also used to collect some Qantas/Oneworld points from the few times we couldn't use VA partners (mostly for flights within Malaysia or to Hong Kong) I don't any more but it's there to harvest the few points that flow in from time to time.

Collect both.

Velocity points are good for last minute domestic flights.

They can alsonxompliment each other.

I have been booking QFF awards LAX to MEL at 330 days as insurance and generally canceling (6k fee) a week out due to Velocity Business availability appearing.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I would love to fly first class on Emirates. I just wondering if there's any availability ever. Collecting velocity points and finding availability for Etihad has been great.

QF points are so widely available it's one could trip over and end up with QF points in their account.

Which is partly why they're worth so little (compared to say, KF miles) - high supply, high demand = higher costs for redemptions.

I actively avoid collecting QF points when I can collect MR points instead. In priority order (based on my cards and so what I realistically can collect):

1. MR (can transfer to VA anyway)
2. VA (via VA dom flying + FlyBuys)
3. Qantas (hey, if I can pick up 104pts with a burger at Rockpool, I will).

EK F redemptions can certainly be found if you search out far enough. Certainly better than much of QF premium cabin availability & god forbid, VA...

If you tend to acquire one more than the other, it seems you can readily swap them one for one on Ozbargain.

There appears to be a healthy market for such types of transactions.

...which are, strictly speaking, against the FFP's T&Cs. Caveat emptor.

Absolutely. I wouldn't think of doing it myself but the opportunity seems to be there for those willing to risk their hand.

I'm actually gobsmacked by the dodgy deals being struck with points which are being sold and swapped like ham hocks on the Chicago futures market.

I mean, everyone's just a thrice-removed cousin, right?

I collect in priority order:

1) MR
2) QFF
3) Velocity
4) Krisflyer

I actually find EK F redemptions quite easy to book via QFF, just booked some to Europe in peak July last week as an example. Perhaps the large amount of points required mean more avails.

QF reserves most their premium cabin avails for upper echelon of the QFF program.

Velocity premium cabin avails - agreed - a complete disaster, and aptly proven by an AFF contributor that ran a script on their website to prove almost no international J avails, to anywhere, ever :(

I collect both. My points warehouse is as follows and in no order:

AMEX - can transfer to many programs, can earn 2:1 or 3:1 and transfer at 1:1 depending on cards
QFF - easy to earn and redeem via OW and EK but high fuel taxes QF or higher points for OW.
VA - high earn rate and I normally transfer to Krisflyer
Krisflyer - easy to redeem and low taxes. I am not an SQ fan however am choosing to fly SQ more than I have in the past.
SPG - normally transfer to Krisflyer
HH - normally transfer to Krisflyer
Golden Circle - normally transfer to Krisflyer
