So Im travelling to London in November with a friend of mine. Im QP bronze member, my friend is not a QP member, Im flying in PE and he is in economy. I want to ask at check-in if they can upgrade him to PE so he can be sitting with me. Has anyone done this with success???? And where should I ask for the upgrade? At check-in? Or at the QP check-in? Or should I ask the FA When im on board??

Re: Qantas upgrades

Your chances are so infinitesimally small that I wouldn't even bother trying, sorry to say.

I think your best bet is to change the fare to a Y+ fare for your friend.
I believe all upgrades are processed before the actual check in process starts. So that means that you can not request an upgrade on departure as per domestic. Asking at Check in you can try, however you need to be careful, as Check in Agents find this a PITA, and who knows where your friend could end up sitting...

Re: Qantas upgrades

I would not bother asking for a free upgrade at check-in or anywhere else. I get the impression that it will actuallydecrease your chances of getting an upgrade as the check-in is likely to ingore your request. Can you imagine if you were working at check-in and was getting this request from everyone? I would find a way to downgrade the passenger asking if I was not having a good day.

And yes I know there are people that ask for them at check-in and get them but these are extremely rare.

Re: Qantas upgrades

I agree with all the posters above. You have between a 'zero to slim' chance, considering there would 'more than likely' be QF members with status on the flight who would be higher up the pecking order.
